Description
Oct. 26, 1948. 1. KALDOR SANITARY. GARTER BELT Fi'l'ed A-pril 26, 1947 INVENTOR. lRV/NG KALDOR 5 ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 26, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Irving Kaldor, San Francisco, Calif. Application April 26, 1947, Serial No. 744,223
The invention, in general, relates to feminine wearing apparel of the foundation garment type, and more particularly relates to an improved garter belt affording the dual function of supporting hosiery and of providing means for ready attachment of sanitary napkins thereto.
As is perhaps well known, women heretofore have employed various individual belts or supporting devices, separate and apart from the conventional hosiery supporting means for the purpose of fastening a sanitary napkin in proper position and for maintaining the same in such position for intervals of time. Many of these prior belts or devices are, in the main, make-shift garments having somewhat unsatisfactory results when it comes to supporting a sanitary napkin -2 Claims. (ore-e04) properly for the time interval required. Oftentimes, these make-shift and other devices, being separate or independent from other garments normally worn by women, become lost and cannot be conveniently replaced. The present invention Referring to the drawings: a
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a development of the embodiment illustrated in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary detail illustrating the manner of forming the pockets for the napkin retaining elements.
Figure 4 isa sectional View taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a view taken on the section-line 55 of Figure 3.
In its preferred form, the improved sanitary garter belt of my invention preferably comprises a front cloth section including depending elastic strips with garter buckles thereon, a rear cloth section permanently joined to said front section through the medium of elastic webbing; said rear section including depending elastic strips with garter buckles thereon, together with pockets on the inner sides of said sections, short elastic strips is directed to the provision of a dual purpose garment which can be worn normally at all times andwhich affords the belt for sanitary napkin always available.
A primary object of the invention is to provide an improved sanitary garter belt having incorporated therein the usual means for supporting hosiery as well as means for attaching a sanitary napkin thereto readily,
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved sanitary garter belt of the indicated nature which is additionally characterized by its ability to retain a sanitary napkin on the body of the wearer in a proper position for desired intervals of time. v
A still further object of my invention is to provide an improved sanitary garter belt of the aforementioned character which can easily and read-- ily be manufactured and which lends itself readily to volume production at low cost.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved sanitary garter belt of the indicated nature which can be used substantially indefinitely and affords a sanitary napkin support always available with a standard garment.
The foregoing and other objects are attained in a preferred embodiment of my invention which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. It is to be understood that I am not to be limited to the precise embodiment shown, nor to the precise arrangement of the various parts thereof, as my invention, as defined in the appended claims can be embodied in a plurality and variety of forms.
secured within said pockets and projecting therefrom, and fasteners on said short elastic strips for enabling the attachment of a sanitary napkin thereto.
As particularly illustrated in Figures 2, 3 and 5 of the annexeddrawings, I provide a pair of cloth sections including a front section H which preferably is reinforced by seams H2 at all edges and which isprovided at one side thereof with a plurality of hooks l3, in the customary manner, whereby the front section ll may be detachably fastened to the rear cloth section it; through the medium of a relatively short elastic webbing section ll having a plurality of cooperating eyelets formed therein, as indicated by the reference numeral 18. The two sections H and iii are conveniently permanently joined together by a short elastic webbing l9 which is stitched to adjacent lateral extremities of the two sections. Rear section l6 also is hemmed, as indicated at 20, on all edges to insure a relatively strong, durable garment. Each of the two cloth sections H and I6 is provided with conventional elastic strips, arranged in pairs at the lower lateral extremities of each section as indicated by the reference numerals 2i and 22 on the front section and the reference numerals 23 and 24 on the rear section, which carry standard garter buckles 25 so that the hosiery of the wearer of the belt can be conveniently and readily attached thereto. These elastic strips 2| to 24 inclusive are all stitched to the front and rear sections and each is provided with an adjustment link 26 to afford shortening or lengthening thereof Whenever desired.
In accordance with my invention, my improved sanitary garter belt is provided with means for readily attaching and for maintaining a sanitary napkin in proper position on the body of the wearer of my improved belt. To this end, I provide a. pocket 2'! on the inside of front section II and a pocket '28 'on the inner sidezof rearjsection 16, the pockets 27 and 28being disposed approximately at the longitudinal centers of the front fective hosiery support but also aifords a readily and rear sections H and I 6 as clearly illustrated" in Figure 2 of the drawings.
Each of the pockets 2'! and 28 is preferably I formed by stitching a sheet 3| of -soft"material;
such as sheeting bounded at thesides withhems- 32, to the inside of the front and back'sections l l and I6, respectively, of the belt. Preferably the sets of sheeting 3| are stifiened longitudinally at their transverse centers withrstays .33 Whichare confined within narrowpockets- 34 formed on the inner side of the sheets- ;.3L.by arcovering 35.-
