Description
Patented Oct. 19, 1948 UNITED STATES e'rsNT oFFlcE BRUSH SUPPORT Herman Jonah Dunn, New Haven, Conn.
Application July 5, 1946, Serial No. 681,509
. 1 Claim.
My invention relates to brush supports and is particularly adapted for use for supporting paint and paste brushes over pails.
In the drawing,
Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of the manner in which the device of my invention may be attached to a paint or paste pail for the purpose of supporting a brush.
Fig. 2 is a view of a modified form of my novel device, and
Fig. 3 i-s a view of the embodiment of one form of my invention as shown in Fig. 1.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawing, and more particularly to Fig. 1, my invention is herein shown and described as being constructed chieiiy of heavy wire bent into proper shape. It is to be understood, however, that other suitable material may be used in the construction of the device.
Thus, my invention is shown supporting a brush I over a paint or paste pail 2 and comprises an integral piece or wire bent to a substantially U-shaped form consisting of a horizontal portion 4, vertical legs 3 and being rebent at 5 to form a pair of downwardly disposed elements 6. Elements 6 are in substantially parallel relation to vertical legs 3, but are less rebent as at 1 in Fig. 1 in an upward direction and in the plane of the remainder of the device to form a loop as shown.
In use, the device is applied so as to clamp the wall of the pail 2 between the loop formed by vertical legs 3 and downwardly disposed elements 6. The paint brush l then rests upon the horizontal portion of the device disposed over the contents within the pail 2. This embodiment of my invention is shown in more detail in Fig. 3.
The embodiment shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing is similar to that shown in Figs. 1 and 3 except that the rebent portion of elements 6 are bent in a direction toward the pail to which the device is applied so that the ends of the wire forming the device engage the outside of the pail 2 and grip it firmly.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Means for supporting a paint brush in a horizontal position over a paint pail, comprising a length of wire bent to form upwardly extending loops at each end thereof, one side of each loop engaging the inside of the pail and the other side of the loop engaging the outside of the pail and the free ends of the wire being rebent in curvilinear shape to facilitate application of the brush support on the paint pail.
