1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in bucket holders, and has for its primary object to provide, in the manner as hereinafter set forth, novel means for firmly but releasably securing buckets, particularly paint buckets, on the usual shelf of a conventional stepladder.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide novel means with which the holder is cooperable for wiping excess paint from a brush.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a bucket holder and brush wiper which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efficient and reliable in use, compact, and which may be manufactured at low COBB.
All of the foregoing and still other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the bucket holder and brush wiper in accordance with the present invention in use.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a pair of coil springs it having one end loosely connected, as at I I, to the ends of the usual platform or shelf 12 of a step-ladder l3. Loosely connected to the other ends of the coil springs are dual hooks I4.
The dual hooks l4 are engageable over the open top of a paint bucket 15 for firmly securing said bucket against tipping over on the shelf ii. of course, the hooks M are engaged with the bucket at diametrically opposite points. Each of the dual hooks I l includes a pair of shanks l6 comprising inwardly bent, abutting intermediate portions ll, together with a bight portion I8.
Mounted diametrically in the upper portion of the bucket I5 is a brush wiper in the form of a metallic rod l9. The rod I9 is provided at its ends with suspension hooks which extend over 2 the top of the bucket it between the bills of the dual hooks l4 and which terminate in outwardly and downwardly inclined bills 2| which are engaged beneath the abutting portions ll of the shanks 16 of said hooks M.
The construction and arrangement is such that when the books It are engaged with the top of the paint or other bucket IS, the springs ID are tensioned. Also, the hooks l4, under the action of the coil springs l8 tension the bills 2| of the hooks 20 for frictionally securing the wiper 19 in position in the bucket. 0f course, when it is desired to remove the bucket, the hooks l4 are simply disengaged from the top thereof and the wiper I9 may then readily be removed. If desired, the holder may be left on the ends of the shelf or platform I2 as it will interfere in no Way with the folding of the step-ladder.
It is believed that the many advantages of a bucket holder constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In combination, a bucket holder comprising a pair of coil springs having one end anchored to a support, dual hooks on the other ends of said coil springs engageable over the top of a bucket for securing same on the support, said hooks including shanks comprising inwardly bowed, abutting intermediate portions, and a brush wiper including a rod mounted diametrically in the bucket, and comprising end hooks engageable over the top of the bucket between the dual hooks and terminating in outwardly and downwardly inclined bills of substantial length engageable under said bowed portions of the first-named hooks for anchoring the second-named hooks on the bucket.
