Application February 20, 1946, Serial No. $418,950
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to a bracket for scaffolding and the main object of the invention is to provide a bracket that is simple in construction will save time in installation save material and can be manufactured at a nominal cost.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described. claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fi e 1 is an elevational view of the brackets embodying the invention installed.
Figure 2 is a side view of the bracket.
F gure 3 is a rear view thereof.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a bracket.
Figure 5 is a modified form of attaching means and Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Figure 4 with the modification shown in Figure 5 applied to the bracket.
Referring more in detail to the drawings the reference numeral 36 designates the bracket proper which comprises parallel horizontal strap hangers l2 and M which are relatively spaced from each other by the vertical tubular member it which is secured to the face of the hangers It Bad I 4 at the center thereof by welding or the The hangers are provided along their lower marginal edges with the elongated open ended vertical slots I8 by which the hangers are attached to a building by means of nails or the Secured to the upper end of the member I O and to the upper hanger 12 by welding or the like is the horizontal angle iron 20 which extends fgrwardly of the hanger I: at right angles there- The upper face of the iron 20 is provided with apertures 22 for the securing of a plank 24 thereto if desired.
The forward end of the iron 2| is bent upwardly at 28 to form a keeper for retaining the plan]: 24 on the bracket.
Secured to the member II and to the underand simple and the brackets are used in pairs when installed as shown in Figure 1.
In some buildings the slots ill will not correspond to the studs of the building and therefore to adequately support the bracket channel members 30 are telescopically fitted on the hangers l2 and I4 and are provided with vertical open ended slots 32 to receive nails 34. Thus the members 30 can be adjusted on the hangers l2 and M in order that the nails 3% will engage the studs in the building-with which the brackets are to be used.
It is believed that the operation, installation and construction of the bracket will be obvious to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
l. A device of the character described, comprising parallel relatively spaced strap hangers, a vertical tubular member secured to the center of said hangers, and angle iron secured to the top of said member and extending at right angles therefrom means on the end of said iron for retaining a plank thereon, a tubular member secured to the vertical member and to the undersurface of said angle iron in diagonal relation surface of the iron 20 at an angle thereto is the tubular member 2| which supports the forward end of the iron 20.
The bracket thusjforlned ,is sturdy, durable thereto, and elongated open ended vertical parallel spaced slots in the lower longitudinal edges of said hangers for receiving means for securing said hangers to a wall.
V 2. The invention as in claim 1 wherein means for supporting said hangers at relatively spaced/ positions are telescopically fitted to said hangers.
. HENRY J. STEFFES.
