This invention relates to supporting fixtures and more particularlyto adjustable fixtures for checking and setting thebrush riggings of motors and generators.

Other objects ofthe invention are to provide an. improvedV supporting iixture, of the character described', whereininaccuracies in the director angular, relation. of.' the brush rigging, brackets, yokes and brushv boxes to the commutator may be. readily ascertained;` to provide an improved supporting xture which is particularly adaptable. for/use in connection with large brush riggings of' the'v main; propulsion motors and generatorsof submarines; to provide an improved supportingxture of the character described which Y is;readilyjadjustable so asv to accommodate brush riggings and' yokesv ofvarious size; and' to provide improved elements and arrangements thereof in a supporting'fxture of the characterv described arrdior'theA purposes set forth.

Each block includes a fiat, base. plate .II upon which a vertical plate I2 is weldedv or' otherwise secured. The latter is reinforcedkk by lateral buttress plates I3'which are welded. or otherwise secured to the plates" H and I2. A shoulderl'isformed at'the upper .end of each block by recessing or removingv the thereof, and this'shoulder is adapted to support the` yoke of the brush rigging. n order to provide a minimum'contact point for the-yoke, a suitabley upright screw I5 is recessed inf thefvertical face of the shoulder I-4.
The base ring 2 has -a depending collar IB and is adapted torotatably receive an upright, cylindrical supporting arbor or spindle I'I (Fig. 42). 2. A supporting xture including, an annular base, the base having horizontal radial arms, a vertical leg underlying and supporting each arm, a block adjustably fastened to and movable longitudinally of each arm, the blocks coacting with one another to maintain a brush rigging in a nxed position, an arbor rotatably vertically mounted in the base and having a circular ange, a radial gage arm slidably carried by the upper portion of the arbor, a protractor ring rotatably mounted upon and encircling the periphery of the base, a lock ring rotatably mounted on the flange of said arbor, means for fastening said lock ring thereto in adjusted xed positions, the lock ring having a pointer cooperating with the protractor ring, an annulus rotatably mounted upon the arbor and concentrically surrounding the arbor and said lock ring, the latter having means for adjustably fastening said arbor and annulus whereby the lock ring, arbor and annulus may be rotated together or relative to each other, said annulus having recesses formed therein, and latch means carried by the base and adapted to engage within the annulus recesses for locking said annulus in adjusted positions relative to said base, the engagement of the latch means within one of said recesses preventing rotation of the arbor when the lock ring is fastened to the annulus and said arbor.

A supporting iixture including, a base having an annular portion and outwardly-directed radial portions, supporting means adjustably fastened to the radial portions and movable relative therebrush riggings of various diameters in xed positions, a support rotatably mounted axially in and extending axially i from the annular portion of the base, .a gage arm of the support axially remote from said annular portion of said base, an annular protractor element rotatably mounted upon said annular base portion,l a iirst annular member rotatably mounted on said support and having pointer means cooperating with the protractor element, a second annular member rotatably mounted on, the support, retractable` means carried by the annular base portion for locking the second member against rotation inadjusted positions, and means for adjustably fastening the rst member to said support and second member whereby the supports and members may be rotated together ornrelative to each other.
4. Asupportingxture including a base, support means mounted on said base and adjustable relative Vthereto radially of an axis extending from said base, gage supporting means rotatably mounted on said base for motion about said axis and having a portion extending axially along said axis from said base, a radial gage carried by a portion of said gage support means remote from said base, a protractor element carried by the base, a rst member rotatably mounted on said gage supporting means and having pointer means cooperating with the protractor element, a second member rotatably .mounted on the gage supporting means, means for locking the second member to the rst member and said gage supporting means whereby the same may be rotated relative to each other or together, and means carried by said base for locking said second member against rotation.
5. A supporting iixture including a base, support means mounted on said base and adjustable relative thereto radially of an axis extending from said base, gage supporting means mounted on said base for rotation relative thereto about said axis, a gage carried by said gage supporting means and extending radially of said axis, a pair of r0- tatable members concentric with saidaxis and mounted on said gage supporting means, one of the members having index means, a protractor element carried by the base for cooperating with the index means, means for locking said members to each other and to the gage supporting means whereby the same may be rotated relative to each other or together, and means for locking one oi the members against rotation relative to said base.

A supporting xture for brush riggings ncluding a base, supports mounted on said base and adjustable radially thereof relative to an axis extending from said base, a rotatable element mounted on lsaid base, gage means carried by said element extending radially of said axis, a pair of rotatable members mounted on said element means for locking the members to each other and the element whereby said members and element may be rotated relative to each other or together, and means for locking one of the members against rotation relative to said base.

A supporting xture including a base, support means mounted on said base and adjustable relative thereto radially of an axis extending from said base, rotatable supporting means mounted on said base, a gage carried by said rotatable supporting means and extending radially of said axis, a pair of rotatable membersgconcentric with said axis and mounted on said rotatable supporting means, one of the members having index means,
a protractor element carried by the base for cooperating with the index means, means for locking said members to each other and to the rotatable supporting means whereby the same may be rotated relative to each other or together, and means carried by said base for coasting with one of the members to ber and lock the same in adjusted positions.
3. A supporting fixture for brush riggings including a base, supports mounted on said base and adjustable relative thereto radially about an axis extending from said base, a rotatable Velement limit rotation of said memmounted on said base, gage means carried by said element and extending radially of said axis, a pair of rotatable members mounted on said element, means for locking the members to each other and the element whereby said members and element may be rotated relative to each other or together, and means carried by said base for coasting with one of the members tolmit rotation of said member and lock the same in adjusted positions.
