(01. 139-88) 1 This invention relates to an improved stirrup In the:treadletype of loom, there are plurality of levers which are cam operated and which have connected thereto suitable jack sticks which in turn are connected to 1 the lower sides of harness frames with suitable means for suspending harness frames, sometimes tension take-up means, whereby the jack straps are moved upwardly and downwardly by the treadles to form sheds in a weaving operation and the harnesses along with the treadles and jack sticks are returned to raised position by conventional means such as tension elevating means.

In conventional jack sticks, they have usually been made similar to the structure shown in the patent to Emmons, No. 1,944,971, of June 30, 1934, in which a stirrup has been provided at a proper location, not necessarily in the middle of the jack stick so as to cause this stirrup to coincide with the particular treadle in a loom. Since looms have two to six and sometimes more treadles, it is therefore necessary to have a different type of jack stick on hand for replacement for each treadle in the loom. Since these stirrups are very narrow only a particular jack stick having a stirrup located at a particular point will do for a particular treadle.

It is an object of this invention to provide a jack stick having a stirrup, the side portions of which are far enough apart to cover the range of the width of the treadles and with the lower ends of the stirrup having a rod extending thereacross with a collar adjustablymounted on the rod so that one jack stick can serve for use in connection with any one of the diflerent treadles in a loom merely by adjusting the collar thereon at the proper position to correspond to the particular treadle and its jack strap with which it is to work;

It is another object of this invention to provide a jack stick for looms having a stirrup much broader than the conventional stirrup with a collar adjustably mounted for lateral movement therealong and adapted to be adjusted in a fixed position to receive a jack strap from a particular treadle in a loom.

Some of the objects of the invention having been stated, other objects will appear as the description proceeds when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view, mostly in elevation and showing a pair of the treadles of a loom and a pair of the jack sticks and jack straps associated therewith;

Referring more specifically to the drawings, the numeral l0 indicates a jackstick, two of which are shown in the drawings. These jack sticks have suitable eye bolts H disposed at each end thereof, in each of which there is pivotally mounted for practically universal movement, a jack hook l2 which is adapted to hook in a suitable eye bolt secured in the lower edge of the harness frame. These jack sticks heretofore have had a suitable stirrup member located somewhere near the middle portion of the jack stick for engagement with suitable jack strap or connecting rod.

As before pointed out in this type of jack stick, it is necessary to have a big supply of jack sticks with the stirrups located at different positions to correspond to the various treadles of the loom. The loom has a plurality of treadles l4, two of which are shown and these are pivoted as at l5 and are depressed by means of suitable cams l5 mounted on a, cam shaft l1. These treadles l4 have a plurality of notches l8 in their lower edges in which suitable links 20 are disposed and to the upper end of these links are secured suitable jack straps 2 I. These jack straps have heretofore been secured to the conventional treadles in the jack stick.

In the present invention instead of having a conventional stirrup, I provide a pair of

rods

25 and 26 which penetrate the jack sticks ID in spaced relation to each other and are bradded as at 21. The lower ends of these

rods

25 and 26 are bent into a circular formation and are penetrated by an elongated bolt 28 which has

nuts

29 and 30 adjacent each end thereof on opposite sides of the

rods

25 and 26 to securely hold the bolt 28 in position in the lower ends of the rods 25 and 2B.

Slidably mounted on the bolt 28 is a collar member 35 which is adapted to be fixed in adjusted position by means of a set screw 36. This collar 35 has flanged portions 31 and 38 at its ends and can be slightly crowned, that is slightly of greater diameter near its center if desired, though a preferably cylindrical collar 35 would operate satisfactorily.

By this arrangement, the collars 35 can be adjusted to any desired position to receive the jack straps 2| and thus one type of jack stick can be used for anyone of the plurality of harnesses and treadles associated therewith in a loom.

In the drawings and specification there has been set forth a preferred embodiment of the invention, and although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being defined in the claims.

I claim:

1. In a loom having a plurality of treadles and a plurality of jack sticks and jack straps con- 4 members being joined together by a horizontally disposed member, and a collar member mounted for movement along said horizontally disposed portion for receiving a jack strap of the loom.

3. In a jack stick for looms, said looms having a plurality of treadles'and a plurality of jack stnaps for connecting the treadles to the jack sticks, said jack sticks having a pair of downwardly projecting parallel members and a horizontally extending memberjoining the lower ends of the downwardly projecting parallel members, a cap member slidably mounted on the horicont-ally eXtending member and having means necting the treadles to the jack sticks, each jack stick having secured thereto and projecting downwardly therefrom a pair of spaced members,

a horizontally disposed member spanning the a distance between and secured to the lower ends of the downwardly projecting spaced members and. a collar member slidably mounted for movement along the horizontally disposed member and on which a lack strap is adapted to be mounted, and means for iadjustably securing the collar member in position on the horizontally extending member.

. 2. A jack stick for looms having a pair of downwardly projecting spaced members secured thereto and intermediate the ends thereof, the lower ends of said downwardly projecting spaced for adjustably securing the same in any desired position along the horizontally extending member to receive a jack strap at any desired position along the length of the horizontally extending member.
