ap licaeionqmne rs, 1945 email-Nofiewibee Dhis invention relates to designation strip structures of the type as used extensively in conjunction with the operation of telephone switch boards, signal panels and the like.
The designation strips ofthe type to which the invention relates aresemployed as a means for identifying signal lamps or jacks which are mounted in horizontal rows in .the instance of a telephone switch board and as is well under-'- s'tbod, require periodic alteration of the-designati'ons (Sr-reference cards to correspond to the ohanges in eiricuit connections. These shoulders are positioned symmetrically with relation to the retaining tongues l and intermediately thereof with a pair associated with each of the designation cards. The protective envelopes II are punched to provide apertures M in their innermost walls positioned for registration with and to receive therein the shoulders I2 when properly ositioned so as to retain the cards or markers against accidental dislodgement. The shoulders or stops [2 in their outward deflection may also be to a degree to establish a slight outward deflection of the card and its associated envelope so as to have a slight longitudinal curvature as indicated in Fig. 2 from which it results that, by reason of the flexing, areas of light reflection from a given point are reduced so as to improve visibility and reduce interferferences of that nature. The improved designation strip structure as described supports the reference cards outwardly from the panel in a manner to assure of unshadowed display and with a supporting arrangement devoid of exposed sharp edges of such character as might catch the clothing. In the latter connection, the rounded bend of the envelopes H extending above the upper edges of the tongues "I act as a protection or guard against interference from the latter.
As will be appreciated, the structural arrangement provides for an easily performed slide or slip-together assembling of the designation strips as a whole with relation to the panel and also with relation to the replacement ofthe individual des- "ignation cards as may be required. In addition to providing for a slide-on assembling of the holder bymeans of the slots 6 formed in the inner walls 3 of the holder, the outer wall 4 is also formed with slots E5 in alignment With'the slots 6 so as to give access to the securing screws for additional tightening as may be desired. Accordingly with the arrangement of the securing screws as shown, in the final assembly they are covered by an over-lying designation card thereby presenting a more sightly appearance and also discouraging tampering.
While I have shown and described an improved embodiment of the features of the invention, it will be understood that varied modifications may be made therein without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
