This inventi'on'relates to a toilet seat for children which: may be connected to the conventional seat. An object of the invention is to provide atoilet seat and cover which may be readily substituted for the conventional covernow in use.

:Anothenobject of: the invention is to provide a childs toilet seat which may be readily attached toor removed fromthe: conventional sea-t.

A further object of the invention is 'toprovide aachilds toilet seat which. is readily constructed ofnon-critical material, and which may be read,- ily manufactured in substantial quantities.

An additional object of'the invention is to provide a seat of the typedescribed having a top, arm supports and 'guardlor' safety bar which when in folded position provide a cover of attractive appearance. a

An additional object of the invention is to provide a seatorine type described which may be constructed of a minimum number of parts.

The seat has a base I. This seat is provided with the usual aperture 21. There is a back 2 which is mounted by hinges 26 to said base i as shown in Figure 2. The back has attached to it the

armrests

3 and 4 by pivots 25. The forward ends of the armrests are supported by upright members 5 and 5. These members are pivotally connected at to the armrests and their lower portions are pivotally connected to raised portions 1 and 8 of base I, by hinges 24.

The base i may be readily attached to or detached from a conventional to let seat by means of the hooks 18 shown in detail in Figure 5 having a curved portion 25 which extends into an aperture I9 of the seat. The book is provided with an elongated shank 2i having a head 22. This shank and head are located within the recess 28, and the hook is normally urged to a closed position by the expansible spring 23.

When the seat is to be applied to the conventional toilet seat the cover for such seat is ordinar-ily; removedon pivoted to its vertical position, whereupon the -attachme'nt of the present-invention isappliedby placing the same overth-e seat and pullingout the severai hooks i8 which are snapped over the edgesotthe-conventionat seat. It will be readily appreciated that the seat is quickly detachable from the conventional toilet seat. It is constructed of a minimum number of parts, the majority of which may be made of wood or'moldable material. The entire seat may be used in place of the conventional toilet seat.

Having fully described my invention and a preferred embodiment thereof, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited by the specific illustration given but by the full scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a detachable toilet seat, a base, said base having a front portion and a rear portion,- said front portion including an aperture, said rear portion including raised side portions and a raised rear portion, and a back, means pivoting said back to said rear portion, said back when in closed position lying in juxtaposed position to said raised side portions and rear portions, a pair of armrests, means pivoting said armrests to said back, a pair of upright members, and means pivoting each upright member to an armrest and to raised side portions and rear portion, and means 7 for retaining said back in a raised or a lowered position including a latching bar, means pivotally mounting said latching bar on said rear portion of said base, a spring having one of its ends attached to said rear portion and its other end attached to said latching bar, said top having an aperture whereby said latching bar may hold said back in raised position when said latching bar engages said aperture, and may hold said back in lowered position when said latching bar is out of engagement with said aperture.

3. In a detachable toilet seat, a base, said base having a, front portion and a rear portion, said front portion including an aperture, said rear portion including raised side portions and a raised rear portion, and a back, means pivoting said back to said rear portion, said back when in closed position lying in juxtaposed position to said raised side portions and rear portion, and means for retaining said back in a raised or a lowered position. including a latching bar, means pivotally mounting said latching bar on said rear portion of said base, a spring having one of its ends attached to said rear portion and its other end attached to said latching bar, said top having an aperture and a slot terminating in said aperture whereby said latching bar may hold said back in raised position when said latching bar engages said slot."

' 4. In a detachable toilet seat, a base, said base having a front portion and a rear portion, said front portion including an aperture, said rear portion including raised side portions and a raised rear portion, and a back, means pivoting said back to said rear portion, said back when in closed position lying in juxtaposed position to said raised side portions and rear portion, and means for retaining said back in a raised or a lowered position, including a latching bar, means pivotally mounting said latching bar on said rear portion of said base, a spring having one of its ends attached to said rear portion and its other end attached to said latching bar, said top having an aperture and a slot terminating in said aperture whereby said latching bar may hold said back in raised position when said latching bar engages in said slot, and a recess in said rear portion, and means mounting said spring and. said latching bar mounting means in said recess.

' 5. In a detachable toilet seat, a base, said base having a front portion and a rear portion, said front portion including an aperture, said rear portion including raised side portions and a raised rear portion, and a back, means pivoting said back to said rear portion, said back when in closed position lying in juxtaposed position to said raised side portions and rear portions, a pair of arm rests, means pivoting said arm rests to said back, a pair of upright members, means pivoting each upright member to an arm rest and to a raised side portion, said back, arm rests, raised side portions and upright members all having surfaces which lie in substantially the same plane when said back, arm rests, and upright members are in their folded position, the front portion of said base being curved, and a safety bar pivotally mounted on said arm rests, said safety bar' having a curvature substantially the same as said front curved portion.
