Description

P 1943- s. CHIAROTTI mm. 2,448,577
ELECTRIC IRON Filed Aug. 9, 1946 IN VEN TOR5 SESTO CHIAROTTI BY 8. ANITA CHIAROTTI ATTORNEYS.
Patented Sept. 7, 1948 OFFICE ELECTRIC IRON Sesto Chiarotti and Anita Chiarotti, Royal Oak, Mich.
Application August 9, 1946, Serial No. 689,455
1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to electric irons and is more particularly concerned with one adaptable to the pressing of childrens and Womens dresses and blouses.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of the character referred to which is especially adapted to pulled and pleated sleeve work.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of the character referred to which can be readily attached to an ordinary ironing board.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of. the character referred to which comprises few parts, readily assembled and manufactured at a low cost.
With the foregoing and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating the invention- Figure l. is a side elevation of the device in operative position, with parts broken away to show interior components,
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a diagrammatic view of the wiring plan for the device.
Like numerals, as used in the description and drawing, designate the same parts of construction.
As is well known to wearers of women's dresses and blouses, it is very difficult to restore them after Washing to the condition and appearance obtaining when displayed in shops. This is especially true in regard to the sleeves where the dress or blouse is styled with puffed and pleated sleeves.
Where ordinary electric irons are usedon this kind of work, good results are difficult, if not impossible, of attainment. With the iron about to be described the puffs and pleats of a sleeve can be readily ironed into original shape.
it) is the ironing member which is an ovoid shell or case with a fiat detachable bottom II. The member III is made preferably of the kind of steel commonly used for ordinary electric irons. It is supported on a tubular arm l2 which is attached on the underside to one end of the bottom late I l which is there provided with an aperture l3.
The support or post I2 is provided on its lower end with a. bifurcated lateral l4- designed to fit on the edge of an ironing board or table I5 and 2 to be adjustably secured thereto by means of a clamp l6 and threaded clamp bolt ll.
Encased in the tubular arm l2 are the insulated wires l8 to the heating coils or resistance units I9 contained in the iron ill. These may be of any ordinary type employed in conventional electric irons and operated by a control switch 20 on the lower end of support l2. 2| designates an ordinary type of wall plug which is suitably wired to switch 29 and connects the iron to any suitable supply of electric energy, such as a lighting circuit.
In operation, the sleeves of a dress, after washing, are run over the iron and it is eiiective to restore puffs therein to their original shape. It will also iron the pleats in a sleeve so that they will be like new.
As difierent embodiments may be made of this inventive concept and modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it will be understood that the matter herein is to be interpreted as illustrative merely, and not in a limiting sense.
What we claim is:
In an electric heating iron, a, vertically-disposed hollow post having a horizontally-disposed base on an end thereof, said base being provided with a horizontally-disposed slot for the reception therein of an edge of a supporting surface, clamping means carried by said base for releasably securing the latter to the edge of the supporting surface, a horizontally-disposed plate supported on the other end of said post, an oval-shaped case mounted on said plate and attached thereto, and means within said oval-shaped case for heating the latter, said means comprising a plurality of heating coils disposed within said case, an electrical conductor cable connected to said heating coils for conveying electrical energy from a source of electrical energy, and switch means carried by said post for controlling the flow of electrical energy through said heating coils and cable.
