Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates the staple container generally which is of channel construction including a rear wall 6 and front wall 1 curved to conform with the body of a person and a bottom 8 positioned between the lower edges of the front and rear walls and secured thereto by rivets or the llk'e' 9. A slide 23 is positioned in the slit l'l between the legs 18 and |9 to function as a spreader to normally maintain the lower ends of the legs spread apart as indi'cated in Figure 5.
The outer surfaces of the fingers 2| and 22 of the leg |8 are formed with longitudinally rounded protrusions 24 and similar protrusions 25 are formed on the outer surface of the fingers of the leg |9, the protrusions 25 being positioned below the protrusions 24.
The outer surfaces of the fingers of the legs |8 and 19 are also formed with transversely extending grooves 2B and 21 respectively.
In the operation of the device with a quantity of staples l4 placed in the container 5 the lifting and holding tool |5 is inserted downwardly in the container at the reduced front wall I l thereof. the protrusons 24 and 25 engaging the upper edges of the front and rear walls of the container whereby to close the fingers 2| and 22 at the lower ends of the legs |8 and 19 in a manner to enable the fingers to enter between the sides of the staples HI as shown in Figure 2, the spacing of the fingers enabling the same to snap the staple in the grooves 26 and 21 in gripping engagement therewith. By providing a pair of fingers 2| and 22 on each of the legs |8 and |9 the fingers will adjust themselves to compensate for the diverging angle of the sides of the staple |4 to thus firmly grip and hold the staple against twi'sting movement in the holder when the holder is withdrawn from the container vand with the staple gripped thereby. When the holder |5 is A withdrawn from the container 5 the slide or spreader 23 will cause a spreading action of the'` lliv the' legs by engagement of the protuberances legs to firmly grip the staple in a manner to hold the same in a desired position for driving into a fence post or other objects.
Provison is also made for attaching a magnetized finger 28 to the upper or rear end of'the holder |5 by means of a non-conductive or insulated connector 29. The oute'r end of the magnetized finger 28 is bifurcated as indicated at 30 and in which is frictionally positioned a lug 3| adapted to enter between the sides of a staple, while the ends of the finger 28 contact the sides thereof for lifting the staple from the container. The side edges of the finger 28 are reduced in width as indicated at 32 and the outwardly projecting lug 3| is adapted to enter between the sides of the staple to prevent twisting of the staple while being held for 'driving thereof.
If desired the container 5 may be provided with a fiexible cover 33 secured to the bottom of the container by a band 34 and provided at its upper edge with a slide or zipper fastener 35 of conventional construction by means of which the top of the container may be closed to prevent loss of the staples while the staples are being carried.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing-s it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination a stapling kit comprisinga container a-dapted to hold a quantity of staples in a horizontal position on the bottom thereof, body attaching means for the container, and staple lifting tongs including a pair of resilient legs, protuberances -on the legs to compress the legs by engagement of the protuberances with the opposed sides of the container upon insertion of the tongs therein, and means carried by the tongs for spreading the legs into gripping en'- gagement with the sides of a staple.

In combination a stapling kit comprising a container adaptedto hold a quantity of staples in a horizontal position on the bottom 1" thereof, body attaching means for the container, and staple lifting tongs including a pair of resilient legs, protuberances on the legs to compress with the opposed sides of the container upon insertion of the tongs therein, grooves in the lower outer Vsides of the legs for snapping between the sides of a staple to seat the staple in the grooves, and a spreader carried by the tongs to spread the legs into gripping engagementwith the staple.
.3. In combination a stapling kit comprising a container adapted to hold a quantity of staples in a horizontal position on the bottom thereof, body attaching means for the container, and staple lifting` tongs including a pair of resilient legs, protuberances on the leg-s to compress the legs by engagement of the protuberances with the opposed sides of the container upon insertion of the tongs therein, grooves in the lower outer sides of the legs for snapping between the sides of a staple to seat the staple in the grooves, and a spreader carried by the tongs to spread the legs into gripping engagement with the staple, said legs being split longitudinally at their lower ends to provide a pair of resilient fingers to .adjust themselves to the taper of the sides of the staple.
