Fig. 5- :is :an enlarged cross-sectional view taken substantially along-the -l'ine 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Referring now inidetaileto the drawings I have illustrated :a' paint'ibrush device constructed and arranged"in'iacc'ordance with my invention and comprising a container lil, open at the top which may take the form *of *a'pai-La'paint can or other similarsuitable receptacle for holding paint ma- Disposed within the pail W is an annular platform supporting member A I which may be made of any suitable relatively rigid material of the nature of metal or the like and which-is of smaller diameter than that of the said "pail I!) and of a predetermined height.
The member H restsifreely on the bottom wall 19a of the pail Hi and is adapted to support on the :top .rim thereof a screen member l5 of any suitable material unaffected "by -:the paint materials and of any desired mesh for the purposes intended. The diameter of the screen member i5 is substantially equal to that of the inside diameter of the pail Ii].
In accordance with my invention paint brushes which have been used on a painting job may be placed in the pail W with the bristle portions 2 thereof-resting on the screen I5. ,In thisfway the dripping'sQfrom the brushwill fall through the screen to the bdttomrof' the bail. The heightsof the member H is such that the bristles of the brushes will not Ybe permitted to rest in 1a po'ollofsediment resulting from the drainage from the brushes. When a supply of brush cleaningIsolu tion, such-as for example, turpentine, is placed in t'he pail-lfl there willbe formedasedirnent of p-aint'at the bottom of the pail whichfmay be reclaimed and usedagain.
In order that the annular member I Ishallndt form a barrier for the free distribution-oi flow of the turpentine or paint drippings, 'I provide a-series of concaved areas l lb extending upwardly f romithe bottom edge .of the said mem ber "I I, as clearly shown in Fi 1 .of. the drawings.
sinceras above describe the paint drippings from the brushes collect at the bottom of the pailv it, itise'vident that thejbottorn. edge of. the supporting member H may become caked to the bottomflof the pail. To break the encrusted hold of thescreen support H on the pail IO, so'that the saidgsupport, l l screen lfi and pail 'l-fl maybe cleaned,II'provide the "following device.
The annularm'ember H may be formed'from a flat strip of material and 'berrt'in the form'oi a ring with the opposite edges terminating a pair or fiangesiii extending outwardly to substantialiyreach the wall of the pail,as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. Pivot'a-lly mountedat thel'ower end thereof between the flanges 20 by means of the pivot 22 is-a'vertically disp o'sed lia'ndie member 21 terminating in a hand gripping portion "21a "projecting above the top of the The portion of the handle 24b adjacent-the bottom end 'thereofis forwardly (rammed andis adaptedto restupon-the bottoinwall Ma of -the pail Iii.
A spring 25 having one end thereof attached t'ojthe handle portion 21,?) and the opposite end fixed to the supporting member H normally urges the ro tation'of the saidhandle 21 in a clockwise direction as viewed in Fig. 1 to dispose the-said handlei l out ofthe wayand p a ainst the w ll of thepail m. h g
The screenninember I15 is provided with a notched portion 126 f extending inwardly from the periphery thereof "to accommodate'tlie passage of the handle therethrough and to permit pivotal novement of the handle as will presently be explained. To prevent undesired tilting or displacement of the screen l5 the same may be anchored to the support II in any desired well known manner, such as, for example, the screws 36 passing through openings 3| in the screen l5 and threadedly received in the supporting member I I (see Fig. 5).
It is thus seen from the above described construction that should the supporting member H become caked to the bottom of the pail, it is merely necessary to grasp the handle portion 2 la and pivotally pull the same in a counterclockwise direction (as viewed in Fig. 1). This will cause the cam portion 2Ib of the handle to push against the bottom wall [a of the pail to cause the supporting member IE to break away and free itself. It is noted that the notched or concaved areas III) will reduce the amount of surface contact between the support l5 and the bottom wall Ilia and thus facilitate the freeing of the support l5.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, I have herein described the principle and operation of my invention, together with construction which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the structure shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means. Also, while it is designed to use the various features and elements in the combination and relations described, some of those may be altered and others omitted without interfering with the more general results outlined, and the invention extends to such use.
Having described m invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
