Application August 31, 1944, seri l No. 552,023
This invention relates to an improved display fixture in the form of an open cabinet, and one of its objects is to provide a device of this character with a plurality of ramps or inclined display channels, and a series of adjustable dividers, so arranged that the channels may be divided into holding spaces, and. greeting cards, small articles, or other objects may be grouped in the channels and displayed for selection or sale.
Another object of the invention is to provide a construction of this general purpose with means for rotating the whole fixture, so that all of the objects on display will be moved across the vision of a person standing before the fixture.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in certain new and useful constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the improved fixture, showing the case for the motor unit in section.
Fig. 2 is a partial vertical sectional view through the fixture, the motor unit not being shown.
Fig. 3 is a detail transverse sectional view through the fixture.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side view of one of the dividers.
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view of a modified form,
Fig. 6 is a similar view of another modified form.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the practical construction of our invention, 5 designates an upright or vertical shaft, which turns in the vertical bearings 6 and I, and the lower end of this shaft engages. the bearing ball 8. This shaft 5 is equipped with a Worm wheel 9, which is engaged by the worm Ill of the motor shaft ll, of the electrical motor l2. The bearings 6 and I are formed on the casting l 3, and this is enclosed by the case 14.
On the shaft the collar I5 is secured, as by the key l6, and on this collar the lower end of the long hub sleeve I1 is mounted, so as to turn with the shaft. This hub sleeve is formed with steps or shoulders 11a, which are engaged by the wings or sheet spokes l8, and the other edges of these spokes are also formed with steps l8a, which are engaged by the cone I9, which is formed with spiral channels or ramps 20.
The ramps 20 are relatively narrow and are designed for holding cards or small objects, and
2 Claims. ((11. 211- 56) each ramp is provided with a helical face strip 2|, the lower edges'of which are cemented or fused to the outer edges of the engaged ramp. These face strips are not as high as the vertical walls 22 of the ramps, so that the upper edges of any cards or similar objects arranged in the channel or ramp will be exposed for customer selection.
In order to divide the ramps or display channels we provide a series of adjustable and detachable dividers 23, each one of which is formed with slots 23a to receive the face strips 2 I. These dividers may be disposed in equally spaced or in unequally spaced relation. The ramps ascend spirally to provide a series of display levels, which are so arranged as to produce a major conical structure, decreasing in diameter upwardly.
All of the material thus described is preferably of plastic stock, and the facing strips 2| may be transparent, and the other materials may be partly transparent or wholly transparent, so that light will pass readily through the same. The entire structure is provided with a base plate 24 on its lower end, suitably fused to the same, and with a dome structure 25 on its upper end, which is provided with a lamp 26, and is constructed so that it may be removed from the upper end of the structure.
When the motor is energized the entire display fixture will be slowly rotated, due to the gear reduction obtained by the worm gearing, and all parts of the fixture and the merchandise arranged thereon will be rotated across the vision of a customer or other person, so that all objects displayed may be observed, and any object desired may be readily withdrawn from the fixture.
In Fig. 5 we show a design, wherein the outer facing strip 21 is arranged to provide eight sides, and in Fig. 6 we show a design of the fixture, wherein the inner ramp structure 28 is arranged to provide six sides and the outer facing strip 29 is arranged to provide also six sides.
It is understood that any number of sides may be utilized in carrying out our invention, and that various changes in the details of construction and arrangements of parts, within the scope of the invention, as defined in the claims may be resorted to.
The electrical motor I2 is controlled by means of a suitable switch 30, and the wires 3|. This motor is designed to be coupled with a suitable electrical connection having a standard service current supply. This equipment makes the unit completely portable, and it may be placed in any 3 desired location in a store, and connected to the outlet of the establishments wiring.
Having described our invention, we claim as new:
1. A rotary display rack, comprising a central vertical rotary support, an approximately tapered body mounted to turn with the central support and provided with a series of connected ramp sections, providing a plurality of inclined display supports one above the other,--and upright 10 dividers arranged radially on said body and spaced apart to provide separat loading zones? on said ramp sections. p
2. A rotary display rack, comprisinga central vertical support, a base on which saidisupporti 2. 489552 turns, an upwardly tapered body having a series H of connected helical ramp sectionsproviding upwardly inclined display racks", each of saidir'iclined display racks having a transparent face.
spacing member, and a series of dividers diswhich receive the edge portions of the spacing members, and which are slidable thereon and also removable therefrom.
