Aspring '36 .isiprovided to maintain the periphery oficam 34 in constant contact with traversebar 28;,the pointof contact being a cam follower 3'! which iSrQ- 39 attached to the'under surface of traverse bar 28. One end of spring 36 is fixedto a bracket 48 on the underside of traverse bar 28 andthe other to a bracket 4| mounted on a portion 42 of the main supporting frame (not shown) which carries the entire traverse mechanism. As cam 34 rotates it forces traverse bar 28 upward against the tension of spring 86 and, after the peak of cam 34 passes cam follower 31. traverse bar 28 is drawn down by the tension of spring 88. s
The fulcrummf'reciprocating traverse bar 28 is part of a shackle arrangement, generally indicated by reference numeral which is designed to cause funnel yarn guide 2| to reciprocate in a vertical path which is tangent to the normally arcuate path the yarn guide 2| would describe if not compensated for by the shackle arrangement 5|. The shackle arrangement comprises a pair of links 52 pivotally attached at their lower extremity by pins 53 to a bracket 54 mounted on an internally drilled and threaded block 55. Block 55 rides on a pair of cylindrical guide rods 56 which are attached to a bracket 51 by means of nuts 58. Block 55 may be shifted forward or backward to efl'ect any necessary or desirable adjustments in the length of the stroke of traverse bar 28 by suit-ably rotating a threaded rod or worm 59 which passes through block 55. A crank handle 60 is provided at one end of threaded rod 59 rotating freely in a bearing 5| set in bracket 51. Additional traverse adjustment means are provided at the end of traverse bar 28, said means comprising a sliding block 62 pivotally attached by a pin 83 to links 52, and sliding in a rectangular frame 54 attached to the end of traverse bar 28. Block 82 may be moved forward or backward inside the frame 64 through the action of a crank 65 which is, keyed to the end of a threaded rod or worm 66 passing through block 52 and rotating in a hole 81 in frame 84 which acts as a bearing for the end of worm 68.
When the cake building operation has proceeded for a suflicient period of time to build a yarn cake 21 of the desired size, take-up bucket 22 containing the cake 21, is removed and is replaced by an empty bucket so that the yarn.
take-up may be continued. To do this, the traversing of bar 28 is first halted by disengaging the drive mechanism (not shown) rotating shaft: 35 and cam 34, and the funnel yarn guide 2| and bracket assembly 28 are swung clear as shown in Fig. 6. Cover 58 of a box 69, which is adapted to contain any spray thrown off by the rotating buckets is then lifted clear and take-up bucket 22 may then be withdrawn from motor spindle 25 and an empty bucket substituted.-
In order to enable the funnel yarn guide 2| and 4 the traverse mechanism and for swinging the same away fromits normal traversing position. Such means comprises a stationary bracket 18 fixed to box 89 and the U-shaped platform bracket 45 which is connected to bracket 10 by means of a parallel motion links 1| and 12. During the normal traverse stroke platform bracket 45 is held in contact with the stationary bracket 18 by means of a latch 13 which is fixed to said" bracket and engages a rod 14 set in platform.
The advantage of our novel traverse mechanism lies in the fact that once the traverse stroke of funnel yam guide 2| has been adjusted as desired by rotating cranks 60 and 65, the yarn take-up bucket 22 may be filled and removed continuously through disengagement of latch 13 without any necessity for readjusting the traverse stroke of the yarn guide 2| at each discharging operation.
-It is to be understood that the foregoing detailed description is given merely by way of illustration and that many variations may be made therein without departing from the spirit of our invention.
Having described our invention, wh'at we desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
the bracket assembly 28 to be swung a suflicient 1.
