EAR ORNAMENT Filed June 15, 1946 IN VEN TOR.
watenteri .iunc 8, 1943 UNITED EAR ORNAMENT Jacob M. Miller, Chicago, 111.
Application June 13, 1946, Serial No. 676,502
3 Claims.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in ear ornaments and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly eflicient in use and economical in manufacture.
Among the several objects of the invention 1s the provision of an ear ornament which may be suspended from the ear by passing the ear through a flexible chain or support, the chain having means for adjustment relative to the ornament whereby to snugly and safely support the ornament from the ear.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a suggested form of ornament embodied in my ear ornament;
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional detail view of the invention;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of an adjustment element embodied in the invention; and
Fig. 5 is a rear view of the invention as viewed in Fig. 3.
The several objects of this invention are attained by the preferred form of construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings I illustrate in Figs. 1 and 2 a suggested form of ornament H). In this particular instance, the ornament I0 is formed of a narrow elongated stamping or casting including in its upper end portion an opening H and at its lower end portion a connecting hook i2. Secured to opposite corresponding surfaces l3 of the ornament i0, is a mounting plate M. This plate I4 may be secured to the ornament [0 within the concave portion 55 thereof by any suitable means such as solder, welding or the like. This mounting plate l4 includes a medial portion I6 offset with respect to the opposite end portions I! of the plate, and this medial portion I6 has formed therein an elongated slot l8. Movable longitudinally of the mounting plate I! is an anchor block l9 having a reduced head portion 20 corresponding to the shape of the slot [8. This anchor block i9 is secured in any suitable manner, as at 2|, to one end portion 22 of a chain or other flexible member 23. The opposite end portion of this chain or flexible member 23 is 2 connected to the hook 12. The end portion 22 of the chain or flexible member 23 is passed through the opening H and through the opening ll formed in the medial portion 16 as shown in Fig. 3. Extending from the head 20 is a stud 24 th'readed to receive a lock nut 25.
The arrangement is such that the chain or flexible member 23 may be adjusted to snugly embrace the ear, and this is accomplished by adjusting the anchor block I 9 relative to the medial portion It. When in a proper adjusted position, the anchor block I9 is latched in adjusted position by the lock nut 25.
By the employment of such an arrangement the ornament I!) may be positioned in a proper relation with respect to the ear.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. An ear ornament comprising an ornamental plate, a flexible member having one end portion connected to one end of said plate, the opposite end portion of said flexible member being passed through an opening formed in said plate, means for adjustably connecting said opposite end portion of said flexible member in a predetermined adjusted position with respect to said plate, said means comprising an anchor bolt, a member for supporting said anchor belt for adjustment relative to said ornamental plate, and a lock nut for latching said anchor bolt in a predetermined adjusted position with respect to said supporting means.
2. An earring comprising an ornamental member, a mounting plate carried by said member, a flexible member having one end portion connected to said member, the opposite-end of said flexible member being passed through an opening formed in said member, means for adiustablY connecting said opposite end portion of said flexible member to said mounting plate, said means comprising an anchor bolt carried by said mounting plate and a lock bolt for latching said anchor bolt in a predetermined position with respect to said mounting plate.
3. An earring comprising an ornamental memjusted position with respect to the medial portion tion of said mounting plate.
