MACHINE FOR MAKING FLOWER-POTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 244,304, dated July 12, 1881. Application tiled May 3, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WILLIAM RATHSAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Making Flower-Pots; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertans to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain new and use-v ful improvements in machines for the manufacture of ilower-pots, and more especially to the class employing a revolving core-mold or male former, and a Inatrix or female former having a vertically-adj ustable bottom, the said core-mold and matrix being adapted to be brought together so as to form pottery articles within the space existing between the outer and inner surfaces of the said core-mold and matrix, and the newly-formed article lifted out of the matrix by said adjustable bottom; and myinventionhas for its object the production of a machine in which the matrix and adjustable bottom can be independently regulated or adjusted for the manufact-ure of differentsized pots; and theinvention consists in novel features of construction, and combination and arrangement of parts, all as will be herein fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

The operation of my improved machine is as follows: Motion is communicated to the interior mold or core by the belt-wheel and gearwheels, as above described. Theinterior plate or disk, L, is then adjusted to suit the desired height of pot to be made, after which a sufficient Inass of clay or other material dipped in coal or other oil is placed in the matrix E. Then by pressing down on the hand-lever D the frame carrying` the matrix is raised, so that it will inclose the revolving core or mold which completes the operation of forming the pot, any surplus material being forced out over the edge of the exterior mold or matrix.
