1 Claim.
This invention relates to a garment, such as a shirt, or coat.
It is one of the objects of this invention to provide a. garment of this character, that is simple to manufacture, and that presents a pleasing appearance.
Shirts utilized either as dress shirts or sport shirts often employ a shoulder yoke requiring a seam at the shoulder. It is another object of this invention to obviate the necesssity of such a seam.
This invention possesses many other advantages, and has other objects which may be made more clearly apparent from a consideration of. one embodiment of the invention. For this purpose there is shown a form in the drawings accompanying and forming part of the present specification. The form will now be described in detail illustrating the general principles of the invention; but it is to be understood that this detailed description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, since the scope of this invention is best defined by the appended claim.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a rear view of a garment embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a front view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a piece of material formed to provide back and sleeves of the garment; and V Fig. 4 is a plan view of a piece of material formed to provide half of the front portion of the garment.
The shirt or jacket includes the back portion I. As shown most clearly in Fig. 3, the material for this back portion may be cloth or leather, or any other suitable fabric.
As shown most clearly in Fig. 3, the sleeve forming portions 2 and 3 are integral with the back portion I. These sleeve forming portions are adapted to be folded respectively to form the sleeves 4 and 5. For this purpose the longitudinal edges 6, 1, 8, and 9 are joined as by a seam to form the lower side of the sleeve. An appropriate cuff, such as [0, may be provided at the end of each sleeve.
The sleeve. forming portions 2 and 3 extend to the neck region I I at the top of the back member I, thereby forming the shoulders l2 and [3.
In order to complete the garment, two front forming portions [4 and are provided. These portions may beattached, as by sewing, to the '2 corresponding edges of the back forming portion They are also attached, as by sewing, to the corresponding edges IB and ll of the sleeve form- .ing portions 2 and 3 that extend toward the front of the garment. An appropriate collar 18 is attached to the neck portion. Thefront portions l4 and I5 may overlap and may be provided with appropriate detachable fastening devices, such as the buttons 19.
The shoulder portions adjacent the neck opening are formed by folding the edges I6, I! toward the front of the garment. These edges are continued toward the armpit regions by the aid of the edges l6, l1 that curve downwardly. A seam along these edges l5 and [6' extends from the neck openingv to the armpit region. This seam progresses upwardly from the armpit and thence substantially parallel to the shoulder line entirely to the neck opening a similar seam along edges l1, I1 is formed at the right-hand side of the garment.
A decorative frame for the front of the garment is formed by the lines I6, I! of the seam between each of the front portions M or I5 and the shoulders.
The inventor claims:
In a garment made from woven fabric: a back; sleeve and shoulder portions integral with the back, said sleeve'forming portions and the back defining a part of the neck opening, the longitudinal edges of the sleeve portions being joined at the lower side of the sleeve, the shoulder portions extending over the shoulder line and substantially parallel therewith; and front forming members joined to the back member at the sides of the front and back members, each of the front members being joined to the corresponding sleeve and shoulder portions by a seam from the armpit region, said seam extending upwardly from the armpit region, and then substantially parallel to the shoulder line entirely to the neck opening.
