as an effective thrust eithente the right oi 'to tlie left as the weapon-is wielded-toward the foe, in hand to hand combat with the enemy; piercing, cutting and slashing said enemy even unto d'e'a-thi It is a further objectof 'this ihventiorr td-produce a stationary thrust blade with a forward cutting edge or edges in combination with a cutting edgeat each end of said stationary blade whereby said stationary blade will also be effective in cutting and slashing the foe.
Other features of novelty and utility will appear from a description of the drawing which is merely illustrative of an embodiment of my invention.
Figure 1 is an elevation of one side view of my invention showing only one blade locking element.
Figure 2 is an elevation of one edge of my invention having a plurality of cutting blades.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of my invention as depicted in Figure 2 having some of the blades in projected position and in which the lock for one of the pivoted blades is omitted.
Figure 4 is a section similar to Figure 3 showing one blade in closed position and the other blade in an open position with both blade locks omitted.
Figure 5 is a cross section on the line 5--5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a cross section on the line 6-45 of Figure 3.
Figures 1 to 6, inclusive, disclose an illustrative embodiment of my invention displaying a plurality of blades, two of which are projectable from a closed position to an open and locked position. The thrust blade 9 is provided with a hand hole 2 and a rear portion In that is fitted and secured between grip pieces or scales G, the springs M, the blade tangs I3, I3 and the liners H, H. Blades l2 and I2 are provided with tangs l3 and I3. The tangs l3 and I3 are apertured and are pivotally located in the end portions of the handle and engage the liners and the rear portion of the blade structure 9 on the inner sides of the tangs l3, 13. The tangs also engage end portions of steel springs l4 and I4. Said springs have a substantially centrally located apertured enlargement Me and Me extending toward and into the hand hole 2. One end I 4f of each spring is free a hand: grip, a plurality of proictable bladesiantl htli's'tblade Gbthe-liners Il', l l the-springs 1 4, l anurui'e b1ac'rtangs I3; is are seizure-d getiier *byneadedbblts or: rivets is; W, It; 19: secret asclearly: disclosed in the drawing? blades 1-2. l2 are bevelled 'and sharpened front 1 thetarigZportions thereof to tn'eir'i tips or some. 'Theoppos'ite edges dfi the bladesiarepevelled and reduced to define pointed end portions which are also sharpened for some distance to and from the points throughout a minor portion of said blades. The blades l2 and I2 are substantially as long as the hand grip which carries them in pivotal relation to said grip.
The forward portion of the thrust blade 9 is provided with a serrated edge portion defining coplanar spaced teeth 2! having their inclined edges 22 as well as their forward edges 23 bevelled and sharpened. The end edges 24 and 24 are also bevelled and sharpened.
In order to prevent the blades l2 and I2 from pivoting into the path of the operators hand when about the grip, I have provided locking means 25 having a strut arm 26, provided with a face portion adapted to engage the notched portion 21 in a tang of the pivoted blade. The locking means is also provided with an operating arm 28 which is adapted to engage the grip or handle within the hand hole 2. The hand of the operator holding the weapon maintains the locking means in blade locking position when the blades are fully opened.
Although I have not shown on the drawings a locking means for each pivoted blade, I have shown one locking means only. Since the other locking means for the other blade is identical, it
was deemed unnecessary to show both of them on the drawings. Also for the sake of brevity, the locking means has been shown to the right only of Figure 3, and a portion of said locking means 25 to the right of Figure 1.
It is to be noted that the intermediate thrust blade 9 is provided with a serrated edge portion defining teeth 2|. Since all the edges 22 and 23 are sharpened the sharpened edge of the serrated portion presents a substantially continuous cutting edge extending along the blade 9 and continued along portions of the ends of the blade 9 as indicated at 24 and 24.
The sharpened edges 24 and 24' are substantially in the path defined by thrust blades [2 and I2 so that in making a swinging lateral thrust with the blade I2 foremost it may be that the blade 12 may miss or fall short of contacting the foe but nevertheless the cutting edge portion 24' following in the same path may contact the foe and injure him severely.
In making a forward thrust the blade 9 may miss the foe and in such case the foe may be severely injured by either the blade I2 or l2.
It appears to be clear that all of the blades bear a definite relation to each other to produce the essential components of an effective hand wielded weapon.
Having shown and described my said invention, what I claim is:
1. A weapon comprising a blade having a, hand hole therein located between the forward and rear portions thereof in combination with scale pieces forming grip portions secured to the rear portion of said blade and surrounding substantially one-half of said hand hole to define a handle, the forward portion of said blade being provided with serrations forming teeth having inclined edges, said teeth projecting forwardly and away from said hand hole, each end of said blade being bevelled and sharpened from an end tooth to said handle, the tips of the teeth and the inclined edges thereof being bevelled and sharpened substantially as shown and described.
2. In a weapon, the subcombination comprising a thrust blade having a hand hole substantially centrally located in said blade, said blade having a, forward cutting portion and a rear securing portion, said cutting portion having a serrated edge portion defining forwardly projecting teeth having inclined edges, said teeth being arranged in coplanar relation, said teeth having their inclined edges and the forward portions of the teeth bevelled and sharpened, said rear portion of said blade having suitably located apertures for securement of said blad to hand grip scale pieces.
3. The construction set forth in claim 2 in which the cutting portion of said blade is provided with bevelled and sharpened end portions to provide for lateral thrusts of said blade either to the right or to the left in combat.
