STITGHLESS BILLFOLD WITH INTERLOCKED POCKET FORMING FLAPS Filed Feb. 27, 1945 2 Sheets-Sheet 2.
il/VVE/VTOR 5011/ K ar/ l eng BY Patented Apr. 13 1948 WITH INTER- LOCKED POCKET FORMING FLAP's Emil- Karl Renz, Dedh mesne assignments, Mass, a corporatlon am, Mass, to Debonair, of Massachusetts assignor, by Inc., Boston,
Application February 27, l s 's js r al M47935:
appearance. J
'In my prior patent'issuedJanuary 9', 1945, No. 2,366,875, I provided a special stay memberwhich was self-adjustable in th'ebill fold when the Wallet was folded. The present lookin'gat the inner face.
K Figure? is a. plan view ofthe combined stay member and dividerwith the stay member shown in the front.
member indicated in Figure 2.

4 Claims. (Cl; 150-389 Figurejfi shows ase ion substantiallyoii j'the lifieE-fi of'Figurelljf l As in icated Figure 1, I covenor outer wall of the wallet, 2 is the divider in; the long pocket and '31s the 3 and is diilided into two sections by the divider 2; The stay member 3 has facing it, both oriits inner face and its outer face, portions of end flaps '5 B which are ends ofthe outer wall I. As
extensions from the viewed merger 1, the portions abet ofthe toget er with flaps sane I0 enoxtending from the outej'rj cover of the wallet at its lower long edge form respectively two tr'ansverse pockets II and I2. Facing sheets Hand cemented around their perlphery at the rearof the flap "Ihese flap extensions l1 and I8. It should also be noted that these flap extenstem 11 and [8' are positioned between the stay element 3- and thed ivider member 2 with which units they interlock, as will be presently ex- The construction of the; stay and divider is ment of the stay to eachother.
Figure 2. The-divider encased f In the assembly of the wallet, the end flaps are folded over to cover the end portions of the outer face of the stay member, it being assumed that the stay member and divider are in the position shown in Figure 3 in which they lie against the outer walll. The flaps l1 and 18 are then tucked between the stay member and divider, the rectangular cut-out portions 25 and 26 fitting about the stems 20 and I9 respectively of the divider. The slots or rectangular recesses 25 and 26 provide sufficient freedom for thestems l9 and 20 so that the stay member and divider may be adjusted together in position and with respect bill fold or the placing 28 at the ends of the flaps l1 and 18 in the folded positions of the end surfaces of the flaps be cemented in place.
Since the flaps 1 and, 8 with their extending portions 11 and I8 all form a part of the outer wall or face I of the wallet, and further, since these end flaps are joined to form a sheath about the divider 3, there isno need of stitching the end edges of the wallet to stitch the flap I 8 into place.
As has been previously stated, in connection with the description in'Figure 1, two pockets are formed, one in eachinner face of the wallet as indicated by H and I2. The back walls of these pockets are formed by the members 13 and M respectively while the front walls arecompleted by the members 1 and B in which the three-sided slots 29 and at are disposed which are engaged by the flaps 9 and l0,'previously mentioned, extending from the lower edges of the outer wall I. These outer finishing flaps are folded over with the folded edges 3| and 32 coming in contact with the diagonal edges of the ,slots 29 and 30 and with the side edgesof the flaps 9 and I fitting behind the walls 1 and 8 in the side edges of the slots. For this purpose the finishing flaps 9 and II) are cut inwardly at 33, 34 and 35, 36 respectively, thus permitting the sides of the flaps 9 and H! to be fitted behind the walls 1 and 8.
It should be noted that finishing margins are provided, one of which; 31; positioned in the central portion of the wallet at the lower end, is faced against the inside of the outer wall and the other, 38, at the upper edge of the outer wall which isalso faced on the inner side of this wall.
In connection with Figure 2, it should be noted that a wide extending tab 39 attached to the lower'end of the stay member 3 is bent over behind itself and cemented to it. 0
A further extending tab 40 is provided at the top of the stay member 3 so as to provide a finished surface in the central section of the stay member between the pockets l and I6.
Ha'vingnow described my invention, I claim:
1. A wallet of thetype described formed of an outer wall having end flaps and. a combination divider and-stay member having a joining strip joining the divider and stay member at their ends, the combination member extending substantially the length of the wallet and parallel to the outer wall, a portion of the end flaps lying-in between the stay and divider and another portion lying externally of the stay member, the
1 and 8 to which they may to one another by the folding of the;
of bills in it. Tabs 21. and I flaps are folded over the outer 1 and is joined to the outer wall I at its ends section substantially narrower than either member, said end flap being adapted to be folded over the exposed face, of the stay member with the side, extension lying between the stay member and the divider,v said side extension being recessed at a place along its end edge to provide an interlocking engagement with the joining section between the stay and divider, said recesses providing sufficient freedom for the joining section to permit longitudinal adjustment of the stay and dividerin the Wallet. Y j
3. A wallet of the type described formed of an outer wall having end flaps and. a combination divider and'stay member joined at their ends in a member narrowerin width than either the i stay member or the divider, said staym'ember and divider extending substantially the lengthy of the wallet with faces parallelto the outer, wall, said end flaps having side extensions and being folded over the exposed faceof the stay member with the said extensions lying in between the stay member and divider and having a cut-out section engaging the joining section of thestay and divider at their ends providing interlocking means between said extensions and thedivider and stay member and permitting adjustment of the latter longitudinally of the wallet, said side extension members having extending tabs adapted to fold overtheface or the end flaps forming a sheath in which the stay memberis positioned. I 4.'In a wallet of the type described formed with an outer wall having end flaps and a combinat on divider and stay member, means adjustably joining said divider and stay member at their ends comprising a T-shaped tab with the stems extending from the ends of one of the members and engaging in transverse slots in the other member, said end flaps having side extensions and being folded over the face of the'stay member with'the side extensions lying'between thestay memberand divider and having, a re: cessed'edge enclosing the stem-of the T 'meni bers and permitting longitudinal adjustment of the stay member and divider combination with respect to the wallet.
