My invention relates to improvements in dish washing apparatus, the primary object in view being to provide a simply constructed, light weight, portable apparatus for washing dishes, pots and pans, kitchenware and the like, cleanly and quickly without breaking china, glassware and the like, and which is adapted for use in a sink installation, is easy to keep clean and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other and subordinate objects are also comprehended by my invention, all of which, together with the precise nature of my improvements, will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claims are read with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in longitudinal section illustrating my improved apparatus in its preferred embodiment,
Figure 2 is a view in vertical longitudinal section taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 8,
Figure 3 is a view in top plan with the cover plate removed,
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail view in vertical section taken on the line 4--4 of Figure 3,
Figure 5 is a view in vertical section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 3, and drawn to an enlarged scale, and
Figure 6 is an enlarged view in plan of the brush unit detached.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, my improved dish washing apparatus, as illustrated, comprises an elongated rectangular tank designated, as a unit, by the numeral I and which includes a front end wall 2, a rear end wall 3, front and rear side walls 4, 5, respectively, and a bottom wall 6. A closure plate 1 is provided for the top of the tank I and which may be secured thereon by suitable latches 8 of any type adapted to be unlatched by lifting said cover plate I,
The tank I is designed to be used on a sink installation with its rear end supported by the drain board 9 and its front end overhanging the sink II). For supporting the tank level, rod-like corner legs are provided thereon in front and rear end pairs, said legs, designated II, being vertically adjustable slidably in vertically spaced guide sleeves I2 suitably secured to the front and rear side walls 4, 5 at the corners of the tank. Wing bolts I3 provided in the lowermost sleeves I2 retain the legs II in adjusted position.
A water feed pipe I4 extends along the bottom wall 6 within the tank I in the longitudinal center of the latter with its front end extending out of the front end wall 2 and threaded, as at l5, for coupling a hose line thereto, said pipe having an upstanding, enlarged rear end section I5 arranged adjacent the rear end wall 3, a circumferential collar I! at the base of the enlarged section I5 and sealing collars IB on its front end portion upon opposite sides of the front end wall I 2. The water'feed pipe I4 may be secured to the bottom wall 6 by welding, not shown, and also by suitable clips l9.
A funnel-like sprayer is provided at the top of the enlarged section I6 and which comprises a perforated body 20 and a tubular stem 2| extending part way up into the body 20 and downwardly into said section I 6 in which said stem is telescopically fitted. A pin 22 in said section I6 and a bayonet slot 23 in the lower end of the stem 2| provides for detachably securing said sprayer to said section l6. A transverse foraminous partition 24 is provided in the body 20 of said sprayer just below the upper end of the stem 2 I. A suitable closure cap 25 is threaded onto the upper end of the body 20 of said sprayer for closing said top. The closure cap 25 is suitably spaced from the closure plate I.
A cylindrical basket 26 of wide mesh wire material surrounds the section I6 and the body 20 of said sprayer concentrically thereof, the bottom of said basket 26 being provided with an axial annular washer 21 rotatable about the section I6 just above the collar I1 and designed to engage said collar if the bottom 28 of the basket 26 sags under weight thereon.
A rin gear 29' surrounds the upper edge of the basket 26, and to which said edge is suitably attached. The ring gear 29' is supported by four gear pinions with which said gear 29' meshes and thereby suspends the basket 26 for rotation about the axis of the section l6 and said sprayer, there being three gear pinions 29, 30 and 3| of like size suitably mounted for rotation about horizontal axes on the front and rear side walls 4, 5 and on the rear end wall 3 to support said ring gear 29' at the sides and rear of the basket. The fourth gear pinion 32 is larger than the others and supports the ring gear 29 at the front side of the basket 26, said pinion being fixed in any suitable manner on the rear end of a short horizontal shaft 33 journaled in transverse bearing bars 34 in said tank I to extend horizontally in the longitudinal center of the tank I The shaft 33 forms part of a brush unit including a disc like head 35 having an axial sleeve 36 detachably secured on the front end of the shaft 33 by a pin and bayonet slot connection 31, 38. A pair of diametrically opposite arms 39 extend forwardly from the head 35 with rear ends pivoted, as at 40, to said head and suitable bristle brushes 4i fixed on their front ends. A coil spring 42 suit ably attached to said arms 39 tends to separate said arms and brushes 4!.
In one front end corner of the tank I is an upstanding drain pipe 42 having its lower end extending out of the bottom wall 8 of said tank, as at 43, and its upper end terminating slightly below the upper edge of the basket 25. Longitudinal slots 44 in the lower end of said drain pipe 42 provide for draining the tank I out of the lower end 43 of said pipe. A combinedoverfiow and drain closing pipe section 44' is vertically slidable in the drain pipe 42'. Abayonet slot 45 in the drain pipe 32 and a pin 35 on the pipe section 44' Working in said slot provide for adjusting the pipe section 44' into a set raised position in which its lower end clears the slot 45 and thereby opens the drain pipe 42. The slot 45 is so arranged that the pipe section 44 may be lowered in the drain pipe 42' to close the slot 45 and thereby close said drain pipe (see Fig. '5) and said'pipe'section is so constructed that-when it is thus lowered, its upper end is at the same level as the top edge of the basket 28. Thus, it will be seen that the pipe section d4", when so lowered, functions as an overflow pipe to maintain water introduced into the tank I at the level of the top edge ofthe'basket 25,
A hose section, designated '41 in Figure 1, is provided for coupling to the threaded front .end 15 of the pipe 14 and to the sink faucet 48, as at 49, 50, respectively.
'A suitably arranged crank 51 is provided for operating the gear pinion 29 journaled on the front side wall 4.
Referring now to the use and operation of the described invention, the body 26 of the described sprayer is designed to be filled with soap flakes above the partition 2'4 and the basket 26. to be filled with dishes or the like. In filling the basket 28, the sprayer may be removed in the manner already described and then replaced. Water introduced into the pipe M from the faucet 3:8 and through the medium of the hose section 41 issues from the body 28 of the sprayer in spray form and the soap flakes in the body '20 render the sprayed water soapy. The dishes arethus sprayed with soapy water until the level of the water in the tank I rises to the overflow limit at whichpoint 4 the spray acts to agitate the water and thereby facilitate the cleaning of the dishes. By means of the crank 5|, the basket 26 may be revolved to further facilitate the washing operation. Glasses and the like may be cleaned by means of the brushes 4| which, as will be understood, are revolved by the gear 32. The arms 39 of the brush unit may be pressed together manually to facilitate entering the brushes 4! in a glass, pitcher or the like. The described sprayer may be readily removed from the section 16 for cleaning, likewise the basket 26 by merely lifting the ring gear 29 off of the described gear pinions. The manner in which the tank I may be drained has already been described.
