Description

Jan. :20, 1948. M. BILLINS ET AL DISGARDABLE AND DEODORIZING GARMENT SHIELD Filed July 21, 1945 INVENTORS. #19871 9/40 t atented Jan. 2%,, l
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DISCARDA'BLE AND DEODORIZING MENT HIELD GAR Martin Billins, Brooklyn, and Rose Fischer,
New York, N. Y.
Application July 21, 1945, Serial No. #606,370
1 Claim.
shield Of this type with improved means for securing the same in position on the garment, which will permit of easy detachment therefrom.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention comprisescertain new and useful constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification, and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. l is a side elevation, partly broken away.
Figs. 2 and 3 are vertical sectional views through the pads with the respective modified holding means.
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of a metal connector.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of an adhesive coated connecting strip.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the practical embodiment of the invention, 5 designates an inner facing of water resistant fabric, or water resistant coating, or other suitable material, and 8 an absorbent textile outer facing.
The inner facing 5 is secured to the outer facing E along the outer marginal edges 1 thereof, by stitching 8, or by pressing the absorbent material together. Between the inner facing and the outer facing absorbent packing 9 is arranged,
- which may consist of cellulose or other similar material, which has high absorbent qualities, and which is relatively inexpensive and obtainable in ample quantities.
The absorbent padding or cellulose material is charged with a suitable deodorant, in any suitable condition, and the finished shield is therefore capable of deodorizing any body odors.
The shield comprises two wings or sections ill and II, each wing having a concave inner or upper edge I 2, and a convex lower edge l3. The two wings or sections are united along their common upper edges, by the stitching II, or by pressing or gluing together.
Between the adjacent inner and upper edge portions of the win s or sections Ill and II, the metal clips l5, or of any other suitable material,
are disposed, on each side of the completed shield. These metal clips are protected by means of paper layers or similar or textile material, and are provided with struck-out lugs l8, which are malleable so that these clips may be united to the end portions of the shield. The converging jaws ll of these metal clips are adapted to grip the edge of the garment.
Instead of the paper covered malleable metal clips, the shield may be held in place by means of the flexible connector band It each side of which is covered or coated with an adhesive H. which remains tacky in normal atmosphere. By pressing the outer side of this folded or U-shaped flexible connecting band against the inner surface of the shield, or against the non-absorbent inner lining or facing, the connector may be attached to the shield, and by closing the U-shaped connector upon the edge portion of the garment sleeve, the shield may be secured in place, subject to easy detachment.
Our improved shield provides the necessary deodorizing medium, without requiring direct application against the flesh of the user, will absorb perspiration without emitting unpleasant odors, and can be quickly discarded when used, without requiring the skill of a tailor or dressmaker, so that the wearer may be always provided with a fresh garment shield, and will never be exposed to embarrassment.
It is understood that various shapes, styles and thicknesses may be employed in adapting the improved discardable shield to various types of ladies and gentlemen's garments.
It is also understood that we may employ an acceptable commercial deodorant, and charge the absorbent padding or cellulose material in any desired strength of such deodorant, to provide various service strengths thereof.
Having described our invention, we claim as new:
A dress shield consisting of a sheet oi. absorbent cellulose filler material charged with deodorant and facing sheets for the opposite sides of said sheet of said deodorant charged cellulos filler material completely enclosing the filler material, said filler material" being of uniform thickness and the combined sheets being folded along a. transverse line to provide approximatelyequal wings having convex curved outer edges and a concave folding line, the shield being provided at each end of the folding line with a, U-shaped attaching strip provided with adhesive on its opposite sides and united by one of said sides to 3 the shield and presenting confronting adhesive faces adapted to be united to the bend of a. garment in its arm hole to hold the shield in service position in said garment.
MARTIN BILLINS. ROSE FISCHER.
