Description

Dec. 16,' 1947. L.' ILSEN EARRING MOUNTING Filed Dec. 4, 1945 I I I I I H H H .l
Patented Dec. 16, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE This invention relates to an earring'mounting of that character designed. to carry ornaments;
and to permit, as to each mounting, the application. of. various styles. and kinds of ornaments, such for example, as. thoseincorporating flower designs of. different. coloration and kind, enabling the sale of a set of the mountings along with ornaments of a kind suitable for use in harmony with various dress styles and colorations.
A further object of the invention is to provide an earring mounting which may be more securely fastened in position on the ear of the wearer and which will be more comfortable in that the fastening means is not confined to pressure on the ear at a single point thereof, as in presently used devices of the kind.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby the fastening means may be adjusted as to position so as to better conform with sizes and shapes of earlobes and thereby secure better holding and more comfort to the wearer.
Additional objects will appear hereinafter, as the invention is described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a greatly enlarged front elevation, showing an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is an edge view, in elevation, of the structure shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the structure shown in Figure 1 after it is assembled and before it is bent to the position of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a further enlarged and sectional view, showing a fragment of the mounting arm and one of the screw clamps held thereby.
Referring to Figures 1 to 4 inclusive, it will be seen that the earring mounting therein shown consists of a central, bendable, body member I, generally of plate-like form with four arms extending therefrom in relatively acute angles"these arms being indicated at I03.
Pivoted at 2x on the short arms la: of bodymember I are four adjustable screw clamp holding arms 2. This pivoting is preferably accomplished by headed rivets which permits the arms 2 and the clamps carried thereby to be moved by pressure in either of two positions for adjustment. The friction of the adjustable arms on the short arms of the body member will thus be suflicient to maintain the adjustment.
At its upper area each of the adjustable arms 2 is formed with a threaded aperture to receive a clamping screw 3 having a knurled head. The clamping screw, in each case, is preferably re- 7 Claims. (CI. 63-14) duced in; diameter at its end, so as to extend. as a. pin from a shoulder of the crew. The pin passes througlr an aperture in a clamp disk 4, and is: headed over to hold the disk in position and yet permit it to have a slight swinging move ment, and also the disk is permitted to rotate. The enlarged view, Figure 4, best shows this arrangement.
All of the forms of my earring mounting are provided with means for receiving and detachably holding an ornament. In the structure of Figure 1 such means consists of a V-shaped plate 1, bent inwardly at its lower end and soldered or riveted to the body member I, the plate carrying a block 8 which is formed with one or more apertures (as indicated by the dotted lines a, Figure 1), to receive a-hook-pin carried by the ornament (not shown).
A feature of the invention, as shown in Figures 1 and 3, is that when a plurality of clamping devices are used on each side of my earring mounting, two of said clamping devices will be disposed at a greater height than the others. Thus, at least one set of clamping devices is adapted for action upon a higher ear-lobe area than the others.
It will also be seen that the structure shown in Figures 1 and 3 is adapted for the left ear due to the position of mounting of the ornament holding part.
It will also be noted that the clamping screws at that part of the earring mounting which receives the ornament are of lesser length than the screws at the opposite or inner part of the mounting.
It will also be seen that the body member at that side which carries the ornament holding part is curved inwardly. This ornament holding part may be detachable if desired. In other words, it may be made with hooks to move into straps on the body member as hereinbefore mentioned. Also, the swivel disks of the clamping members may be made detachable if desired.
What I claim is as follows:
1. An earring mounting consisting of a central bendable body member having two major faces and carrying at each of these faces a plurality of adjustable arms, each arm having a threaded aperture and a screw clamping device threaded in each of said apertures.
2. An earring mounting consisting of a central bendable body member having two major faces and carrying at each of these faces a plurality of adjustable arms, each arm having a threaded aperture, means carried by the body member for detachably holding an ornament.
3. An earring mounting consisting of a central bendable body member having two major faces and carrying at each of these faces a plurality of adjustable arms, each arm having a threaded aperture, each clamping device consisting of a screw, and a disk swiveled on the end of the screw for rotation and slight swinging movement.
4. An earring mounting consisting of a central bendable body member having two major faces and carrying at each of these faces a plurality of adjustable arms, each arm having a threaded aperture and two opposed arms being longer than the remaining arms.
5. An earring mounting consisting of a central bendable body member, a plurality of arms extending from the body member, a clamping device carried at the end of each arm. means carried by the body memberadjacent to the arms and adapted for detachably holding an ornament, the clamping device of one arm being spaced from and lying opposite to the clamping device of a second arm.
6. An earring mounting consisting of a body member and two arms pivotedly carried thereby, a clamping device carried at the end of each pivoted arm, and consisting of a screw threaded in the arm and carrying a contact disk, the disk of one clamping device being spaced from and disposed opposite to the disk of the second clamping device, the disk being mounted for rotational and slight swinging movement on the screws.
'7. An earring mounting consisting of a central bendable body member having two major faces and carrying at each of these faces at least one adjustable arm, each arm having a threaded aperture, and a screw clamping device threaded in each of said apertures.
