Application March 29, 194.6, Serial No. 658,157
1 Claim.
This invention relates to ice creepers for attachment to any size boot or shoe and the main object of the invention is to provide a creeper having a removable spur plate which can be easily replaced when desired by the use of only one hand.
Another object of the invention is to provide a creeper that is simple in construction, durable and efficient in use and operation and can be manufactured at a nominal cost.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shoe with an embodiment of the invention attached thereto at the ball thereof.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the creeper.
Figure 3 is a front view thereof.
Figure 4 is a bottom plan View.
Figure 5 is a sectional View on the line 55 of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 66 of Figure 2.
Figure 7 is a top plan view similar to Figure 2 with the strap retaining plate in position for removal thereof.
Figure 8 is a bottom view similar to Figure 4 showing the spur plate being removed and Figure 9 is a side elevation of a shoe showing the device attached to the shank thereof.
Referring more in detail to the drawings the numeral l designates the creeper plate which is provided with the inclined strap retaining portion [2 and a section l4 of a strap I 6 is looped through an elongated slot ill in the portion l2 and secured to itself at 20 in any well known manner.
Extending longitudinally of the plate I0 is a slot 22 having circular openings 24 at the ends and center thereof to receive the flat portion of the rivet 28 that is provided with a head 26 and which is secured to the adjustable strap retaining plate 30 having the strap retaining portion 32 and the section 34 of the strap 16 is looped through an elongated slot 36 in the portion 32 and secured to itself at 38 in any well known manner.
Secured to the plate I0 in relatively spaced relation to each other along the longitudinal edges thereof are the rivets 40 having the heads 42 spaced from the plate I!) to receive the removable spur plate 44.
2 The plate 44 is provided with relatively spaced longitudinally extending spurs 46 and a notch 48 in one longitudinal edge thereof to receive the spring latch 50 secured to the plate In by a fastener 52.
As shown in Figure 1 only one strap is necessary to retain the creeper on the ball of the shoe but in Figure 9 two straps l6 and 54 are used to retain the creeper on the shank of the shoe.
There has thus been provided a creeper having a removable spur plate that can be removed as desired when entering the house or walking over surfaces where a creeper is not necessary and when the creeper is desired to be used again, the spur plate can be replaced.
It is believed that the operation and construction of the device will be obvious to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Let- 25 ters Patent is:
A device of the character described, comprising a creeper plate, an adjustable strap retaining plate on said creeper plate, means on said creeper plate and said strap retaining plate for retaining said creeper on a shoe, a removable spur plate having spurs thereon mounted on said creeper plate and a spring pressed latch for retaining the spur plate upon the creeper plate.
