My invention relates particularly to nonskidding devices for shoes to be worn by men, women and children...

The objects of my invention are to provide a thoroughly practical non-skidding device of simple, inexpensive, light, strong and durable construction which is adapted to be easily and conveniently applied to or removed from the shoe and which is eliicient in use when walking on snow, ice, sleet, leaves, mud or steep or irregular surfaces; to provide a device of this character, which can be easily and readily adjusted to comfortably fit various sizes of shoes and which can also be folded into compact space for carrying in the pocket or otherwise; to provide such a device which may be adjusted to different positions upon the sole of the shoe, and to provide a device which will permit of perfect freedom of movement of the wearer, as well as preventing slipping without undue strain upon the foot.

My invention consists of a plurality of plates each having a plurality of projections or points extending from its lower surface, said plates being connected together by links or chains and being attached to belts by which the device is fastened upon the sole of a shoe. r

My invention also consists in the details of construction and in the parts and combination and arrangement of parts as herein set forth and claimed.

In the embodiment of my invention as illustrated and which shows a preferred construction, I provide a plurality of plates 5,

preferably of metal, each having a plurality of holes 6, each hole being adapted to receive a holding point Thaving its shank 8 fitting snugly in the hole and itsend riveted over the top surface of plate 5,so that the flattened end 9 and the shoulderlOOf the holding point 7 will befir'mly and securely fastened to plate 5. Holding point 7 is preferably conical so that as the point wears dull, it can be easily and quickly sharpened. Plates 5 are spaced apart and connected by links or chains 11,- the links engaging in holes 12 in the edge of each plate. This permits the device to adapt itself to the form of the shoe sole and provides for economy in construction, as less material is thus required. It also permits the holding points 7 to more readily adapt themselves to the surface over which the user travels, whereby a firm non-skidding hold is assured at every step.

Each plate is provided with a hole 13 near its end to receive rivet 14 for the pur pose .ofsecuring leather or cloth straps or belts 15 on-the upper side at each end of the respective plates, said rivets being extended through said belts with a leather 'or other washer 16 upon theupper side through which the split end 17 of the rivetextends and has its split or'bifurcated ends split apart and riveted down upon the washer to securely hold the, plates to the straps or belts. Each strap or belt is provided with a suitable buckle 18 upon one end by which the device is firmly clamped and held uponthe shoe sole at any pointdesired, but I prefer to secure it at or near the ball of the foot so that the device is brought substantially centrally of the sole and held at a point where it will insure holding contactof the From the above description, it will be i seen that my device can be quickly and easily attached'to or detached from a shoe and that when detached from the shoe, it can. be folded into a small package for con veniently carrying in the pocket.

It will be seen that my device, which is particularly adapted to be secured to the hall of the foot, greatly facilitates Walking without increasing fatigue and insures a positive grip for the foot on slippery sur faces.

lVhile I have shown a preferred construction, it will be apparent that my invention is capable of modification 'withoutdeparture from its scope or spirit, and I do not, therefore, restrict myself to the exact details of construction shown and described, but mean and intend to claim all equivalents and variations thereof, as defined by the following claim:

A non-skidding device for shoes comprising a plurality of plates spaced apart from I each other and each having holding points on its lower side, links or chains connecting said plates near each end thereof in flexible relation to each other, a pair of straps attached to the respective ends of said plates and means for detachably connecting the respective ends of each strap together in adjusted relation, substantially as set forth and for the purposes specified.
