Description

Oct. 14, 1947. E. TARNAY MULTIPLE GARMENT HANGER Filed Dec. 22, 1945 INVENTOR. E u G EN 1: TA RNAY ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 14, 1947 MULTIPLE GARMENT HANGER Eugene Tarnay, New York, N. Y., assignor to Irving Seidman, New York, N. Y.
Application December 22, 1945, Serial No. 636,685
3 Claims. (Cl. 211-96) This invention relates to a clothes hanger for supporting a number of bars upon which many hangers and various types of garments may be hung.
Broadly, it is an object of my invention to provide a garment hanger which is adapted to be removably attached upon a door hinge or other support.
More particularly, it isan object of my invention to provide a garment hanger which may be adjustable so that a larger or lesser number of bars may be utilized and which may be pivoted so that the bars can be moved at various angles to receive a large number of. garment hangers.
Still another object of the invention is to pro- 1 vide a sturdy garment hanger which will utilize a door hinge as a pivoting support and which can receive a large number of garment hangers in spaced relationship providing adequate means for housing many clothes.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of my invention, reference is had to the following detailed description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a top view of my multiple garment hanger.
Figure 2 is a side view of same.
Figure 3 is a front view of a plate upon which my garment hanger may be attached.
Figure 4 is a Side view of the plate shown in Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a side view on a reduced scale, showing one type of adjustment for a larger door hinge.
Referring to the drawings, numeral l and H represent crossed arms preferably made of metal and having their ends [2 and I3 formed with semi-circular recesses so that they may fit upon the upper and lower ends of the pin of the hinge M. The opposite ends l and [B of the arms are so shaped as to permit a hole to be placed therein through which screw I! may be passed, the up per end for retaining the head l8 and the lower end for receiving a wing nut 19. At the central portion of the crossed arms In and I I there are a series of holes 20 and 2| through which a screw 22 may be passed so that the crossed arms to and II may pivot around the screw 22. A series of horizontal bars 23 has an opening at one end through which the screw I! may pass and notches 24 and holes 25. within which the wire hook of a garment hanger may rest. Several of such horizontal bars 23 may be placed between the ends I5 and [6 of the arms I0 and H, such bars being 2 retained in swingable position by nut 26, which can be adjusted upwardly or downwardly, depending upon the number of bars 23 desired and which may be'placed between the ends l5 and I6 of the crossed bars. By tightening the wing nut l9 along the screw'll as shown in Figure 2, the ends l2 and I3 of the crossed bars 10 and II will'be firmly retained upon the ball ends 2l-2l of the hinge pin, thus-retaining the entire garment hanger in swingable position upon the hinge M of the door.
By removing screw 22 and placing the said screw in different holes 20 and 2| of the crossed arms, the fixture may be adjusted for larger and smaller hinges, such as M, and as shown in Figure 5 and for retaining a larger or lesser number of horizontal bars 23. As hereinbefore stated, by adjusting nut 26 and by tightening or loosening wing nut l9, the fixture in its different positions may be utilized upon larger or smaller hinges and can house a larger or lesser number of horizontal bars 23. Of course, instead of the hinge pin being utilized, a plate 28 having bent ends 29-29 may be used for receiving the ends l2 and I3 of the crossed bars. This plate may be screwed in any convenient location for retaining my multiple garment hanger.
When not in use and when attached to a hinge, such as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 5, my garment hanger may be pivoted against the wall in a flat position thus keeping it out of the way. However, with clothes hangers upon the horizontal bars 23, my garment hanger may also be pivoted against the wall or may project at right angles to the wall with the horizontal bars 23 pivoting angularly about the screw I! so that a greater number of notches 24 and holes 25 are available for use for a larger number of garment hangers, thus giving additional space to hang a large number and variety of clothes. Of course, a larger number of holes and notches than that shown in the drawings may be used. The horizontal bars 23 may be made of wood, metal or plastic, or like materials, depending upon the strength and appearance desired.
I 'do not desire to be limited by the specific shape of the crossed arms l0 and H. as shown,
modifications may be made in the details of con struction and in the choice of materials without departing from the general spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a multiple garment hanger of the character described, a pair of adjustable crossed arms, the ends of which are adapted to be firmly seated upon the ball ends of a hinge pin, said arms pivoting about a pivot, the opposite ends of said crossed arms having holes, a screw passing through said holes, horizontal bars pivoting about said screw, means for retaining said horizontal bars in position, a wing nut for said screw retaining the opposed ends of said crossed bars upon said hinge pin, whereby said hanger will be pivotally retained upon said hinge.
2. In a multiple garment hanger of the character described, a pair of crossed bars adapted to be firmly seated upon the hinge pin of a door hinge a screw passing through holes in opposite ends of said crossed bars, a wing nut for said screw ad-justably retaining said crossed bars upon said hinge pin, a series of horizontal bars retained in horizontal position upon said screw, a
nut for said screw retaining said horizontal bars in swingable position upon said screw, whereby said hanger can be retained in swingable position upon said door hinge and said horizontal bars may receive a number of garment hangers.
3, ,In a multiple garment hanger of the character desc bed a pair of cr ssed bars havi a series of holes along the center thereof, a screw passing through a pair of selected holes for changing the pivoted position of said crossed bars, the ends of said crossed bars adapted to be seated upon a holder in vertical position, the opposite ends of said crossed bars having openings for receiving a screw in vertical position, horizontal bars having holes at one end through which said screw passes permitting said horizontal bars to pivot about said screw, a nut seated upon said screw for retaining said horizontal bars in swingable position upon said screw, a wing nut seated upon the end of said screw for tightening said crossed bars to retain said bars upon said holder, and notches and holes upon said horizontal bars for receiving garment hangers.
