4 Claims.

This invention relates to pipe bowl cleaners for smoking pipes, and more particularly to a reamer device for cleaning pipe bowls of excess carbon and other tobacco residue material.

A main object of the invention is to provide a pipe bowl cleaner device of novel and improved structure.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved pipe bowl cleaner device having means for expanding the cleaning elements thereof to conform to the internal contour of the pipe bowl during the cleaning process.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view, partly in section, of an improved pipe bowl cleaner device in accordance with this invention, shown in operating position in the bowl of a smoking pipe drawn in dotted View.

Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a cross-sectional View taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.

Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the holder portion for the pipe bowl cleaner, said holder portion being made of metal, plastic, wood or other suitable material. Rigidly secured at the intermediate portion of holder 1 is a depending post member 2 of generally circular crosssection and preferably formed of round metal stock. The outer lateral edges of

4, 4 are provided with cutting edges and the lower ends of said blades are rounded oil to correspond to the rounded contour of the bottom of a pipe bowl, as shown in Figure 1.

4, 4 are inserted in the pipe bowl, ring element 6 being initially in an elevated position on post member 2. Holder l is then rotated causing

4, 4 to scrape the side walls of the bowl. As residue material is removed from said side walls, ring member 6 works its way downward by gravity, or may be urged downwardly by the operator to widen the angle between

4, 4, thus providing progressive reaming action thereof.

It is thus apparent that the pipe bowl may be reamed to any desired degree and that the cleaning device is automatically adjustable, within wide limits, to the interior contour of any standard pipe bowl.

While only two reamer blades are shown in the embodiment disclosed in the drawings, any desired number of blades may be employed pivotally and radially disposed with respect to the central post member, the holder member being correspondingly modified to provide radial recesses for the top ends of the blades.

While a specific embodiment of a pipe bowl cleaner has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it will be understood that various modifications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed on the invention other than as defined by the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A pipe bowl cleaner comprising a post member, a plurality of blade elements pivotally secured to the post member at its lower end portion, said blade elements being radially disposed with respect to said post member and being provided with outer cutting edges, an annular ring element slidably mounted on said post member, said annular ring element being adapted to abut the inner surfaces of said blade elements, and a holder element rigidly secured to the upper portion of said post member, said holder element being formed with recesses for loosely receiving the top ends of said blade elements.

A pipe bowl cleaner comprising a post member, a plurality of elongated blade elements radially disposed with respect to said post member and pivotally secured to said post member at its lower end portion, said blade elements being provided with sharp outer edges, an annular ring element slidably mounted on said post member and bearing against the inner surfaces of said blade elements, and a holder element rigidly secured to the upper portion of said post member.

3. The structure of claim 2, and wherein said 3 holder element is formed with recesses loosely receiving the upper portions of said blade elements.

4. The structure of claim 2, and wherein said holder element is formed with recesses radially 5 disposed with respect to said post member for receiving the upper portions of said blade elements, said recesses being formed to provide radial clearance for outward movement of said upper portions.
