The present invention relates to articles of jewelry, namely earrings and particularly to means for detachably securing them to the lobe of the ear of a wearer.

An object of this invention is to provide earring attaching means of novel and improved construction, which is easy to manipulate and which securely holds the earring while worn.

Another Object of this invention is to provide a novel and improved earring fastening means which is easy and cheap to manufacture, simple to use and eiiicient in carrying out the functions for which it is designed.

Other objects and advantages will become apparent as this speciiication proceeds.

in the drawings, the numeral l@ designates an earring ornament carried on a U-shaped frame indicated generally by il. Said frame includes a button form i2, on the ornament-bearing arm of the frame, in juxtaposition to a wedge member moveably mounted on the other arm of said frame. This wedge member I3, is provided with a longitudinal slot lil, through which is positioned a pin ifi' which is securely mounted at its ends to the bracket elements i5. The wedge member i3, is of course, slidable with respect to the frame member, and also swingable about pin |41'. A tab i6 extending from and integral with the wedge member I3, is provided to facilitate manipulation of the wedge.

The earring is placed on the ear of the wearer whereby the ears lobe il is between the button i2 and the wedge I3, that is, positioned between the arms of the frame; the earring clamp being in open position as is illustrated in Fig. 2. NOW, the wedge i3 is raised and then slid downwardly into the frame, meaning between the arms of the member Il, whereupon the ear lobe I1 will become pinched or gripped, Upon withdrawal of the wedge i3, the lobe Il is released. rihe opening i8 in the frame between the bracket elements i5, is to permit swinging the wedge member downwardly outwardly from the frame member li.

To maintain the wedge member i3 downward in the frame I l, a stop element i9 is swung into position as in Fig. l, to engage tab. 16. Said element i9, in the embodiment shown, is a U- shaped wire, the ends of which are pivotally mounted at the respective ends of the pin i4', exterior the frame l l.

This invention is capable of numerous forms and various applications without departing from the essential features herein disclosed. It is therfore intended and desired that the specie description herein be deemed illustrative and not restrictive and the patent shall cover all patentable novelty herein disclosed; reference being had to the following claim rather than to the particular embodiment herein to indicate the scope of this invention.

I claim:

In an earring, a frame including a substantially U-shaped element, an axis pin mounted on one of the arms of said element in spaced transverse relation with said arm, a wedge member having a longitudinal slot, slidably and pivotedly mounted on said pin; the pin extending through said slot; said wedge member being adapted to slide on said pin between the arms of said ele, ment and to be swung laterally with respect to the U-shaped element, and means mounted on the frame to fix the position of the wedge member.
