1 Claim.
The invention aims to provide a new and improved shirt collar provided with a novel construction to preventI the ends of the collar from curling upwardly, insuring that they shall remain in orderly relation with the wearers vest or coat.
A further object is to provide a construction which will enhance the appearance of the collar.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing is a perspective View showing a collar constructed in accordance with the invention, in use.
Figure 2 is an outer side elevation of the collar shown in Fig. l.
Figure 3 is a perspective View showing a different style of collar, in use.
In the drawing above briefly described, the numeral 5 denotes the inner fold of the collar, constituting the neckband, and 6 has reference to the outer fold turned downwardly from said inner fold 5. As I have shown a detached collar separate from any shirt with which it is to be worn, the ends of the inner fold or neckband have each been shown with a button-hole 1, but for attached collars, there would ordinarily be a button-hole in one end only and a button on the other end, as usual.
The outer fold 6 is provided with two front edges 8 to occupy positions adjacent the knot of the wearers tie, and these front edges may have any desired lengths, and any appropriate spacing to expose more or less of the knot of the tie. Said edges 8, however, extend in a substantially vertical direction and diverge downwardly from the upper edge of the folded collar. Two lower edges 9 extend rearwardly and upwardly from the lower ends of the front edges 8 and are of a length to extend substantially to the inner edges IB of the wearers coat or vest Il. Additional front edges I2 extend laterally and downwardly from the rear ends of the lower edges 9 and are of a length to underlie the edge portions IU of the vest or the like, and a major lower edge I3 which is longitudinally curved extends from the lower end of one of the edges I2 to the lower end of the other of said edges I2.
Due to the construction above described, the angular portions I4 of the outer fold 6, between the edges I2 and I3, will underlie the edge por.
tions I@ ofthe vest or other thus prevent the portions I5 between the edges 8 and 9, from curling upwardly, insuring that they shall remain in orderly relation with the vest or other garment. In fact, even when the collar is worn without a vest, coat or the like, it has no tendency to curl and thus insures a much neater appearance than a number of the conventional collars now in every-day use. It will be noted that the portions I5 form acute angled points which resemble the usual points or wings of the ordinary turned-down upstanding collar.
From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that novel and advantageous provision has been made for carrying out the objects of the invention, but attention is invited to the fact that the present disclosure is illustrative rather than limiting.
I claim:
A shirt collar comprising an inner fold constituting a neckband, and an outer fold turned downwardly from said inner fold, said outer fold having front edges to occupy positions adjacent the wearers necktie knot, said front edges be ing disposed upright in downwardly diverging relation when the collar is in use, lower edges extending rearwardly and upwardly from the lower ends of said front edges and of a length to extend substantially to the inner edges of the wearers vest or coat, whereby an acute angled wing is formed between said front and lower edges, additional front edges extending laterally and downwardly from the outer ends of said lower edges and of a length to extend under said inner edges of the vest or coat, and a major lower edge extending from the lower end of one oi said additional front edges to the lower end or the other of said additional front edges.
