J. JENSEN. Brace'for Vehicle Bodies.
No. 241,987. Patented May 2, I881.
n. PETERS, mwum r-r' vimm. 0.1;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JENS JENSEN, OF RAGINE, WISCONSIN.
BRACE FOR VEHICLE-BODIES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 241,987, dated May 24, 1881.
Application filed October 13, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1,JENs JENSEN, of Ra cine, in the county of Racine, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Braces for Vehicle- Bodies, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to braces for wagonbodies, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a portion of a wagon-body and myimproved brace in perspective. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, and Fig. 3 details.
A is the upright portion of my device, which is shouldered at A, and this shoulder receives a bolt, B, which extends down through one of the center cleats and is tightened by a suitable nut. Just about two-thirds of its length from the shoulder the upright A has cars a a, a be in g perforated to receive one of the lugs, b, of strut B, and the other, a, projecting from just below it on the other edge of the upright, so that While the strut may be easily attached and detached from the upright when its lower end is raised to carry it at an angle of fifty degrees or thereabout it will be securely held in place when the lower end is bolted to the cleat O. The ear a also forms a bearing for the lug I).
My device may be easily and cheaply made, an d as the strut isjointed to the upright it may be adapted to bodies that have been warped out of shape by exposure to the weather in shipping; or the upright may be attached to the body atthe shop and the braces or struts applied when the wagons reach their destination.
What I claim as my invention is- The upright having cars a a, in combination with the strut having lugs b b, all adapted for being applied to a wagon-body, as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 1st day of October, 1880.
J ENS JENSEN.
