HANGER FiledJan. 11, 1946 NV EN TD2 @A FRED 6545552 37 A a WFM TToszNe Patented Apr. 29, 1947 UNITED STATES l' PATENT OFFICE HANGER Alfred Graeber', Milwaukee, Wis. Vimplication.January 11, 1946, ASerial No. 640,577 2 Claims. (01.,223-9'5l This invention relates to improvements in hangers, and more particularly to improved hangers of the type adapted to hang trousers from the cuff ends.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which will suspend trousers from the culi ends thereof in a manner which will distend the cuisand hang the trousers with straightened lines tending to eliminate all wrinkles.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type which may quickly and easily be attached to the trousers for the hanging thereof.
Another object oi the invention is to provide a device for hanging trousers by the cuirs which will not tend to press new and objectionable lines or wrinkles into the garment as is the case with curi hangers of types now in use.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being, had to the accompanying drawing, in
which:
Fig. l is a view in perspective of a pair of trouser hangers embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a View in perspective of a removable pusher head.
Fig. 3 is a View partly in elevation and partly in section showing the spring mechanism.
Fig. 4 is a View in perspective of a modiiied form of the invention.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary detail View partly in elevation and partly in section showing a removable pusher head for the modified form.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, as shown in Fig, l, each of the hangers is exactly the same, having a body portion it! suspendable by a hook il, and having a stationary end member i2. The body ill is slotted at i3 to accommodate the pin iii which is inserted in a boring at i5 oi the pusher rod l'E which latter carries the removable pusher head El. As shown in Fig. 3 the pusher rod i6 is pressed outwardly by the coil expansion spring i8. The pusher rod l has the threaded member at it to provide for attachment of pusher heads l'i of various lengths one of which is shown in Fig. 2. y
In the modiiied form of the invention shown in Fig. fl, a body portion 2.5 has the hook member 26 for suspending the unit, and the iix'ed member 2'! with two downwardly directed leaves 28 and Body portion 25 is slotted at E@ to accommodate the pin 3i which is insertable in borings 32 of the pusher rod 33, which latter carries the pusher head 34 provided with the retractor handle 35 and the downwardly directed leaves 35 and 3l'. Various sizes of pusher heads 34 are provided and are threadingly engaged with the pusher rod 33 as shown in Fig, 5,
In use, a'plurality of variously sized pusher heads il are provided, and the one of appropriate size is attached, according to the dimensions of the cuirs of trousers or the waistband of the skirt to be hung. The head i1 is retracted by manual operation, and the device is then inserted into the cuir" of the inverted trousers or other garment. Release of the head il will provide an expanding tension of the parts suflicient to retain the garment. One or the devices is inserted into each cuil and the whole suspended, as in a clothes closet, by means of the hooks Il.
In use of the preferred form, a unit is provided for each cuff, but in the modified form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 4, a single unit accommodates both cuits oi the trousers, one cuff being stretched over the downwardly directed leaves et and 23, and the other cuff enveloping the leaves 3l and Zd. The expanding spring pressure will retain the trouser cuffs thereon.
The hangers may very easily be used to suspend skirts by attachment within the Waistbands thereof, and to accommodate very large skirts it would only be necessary to attach a relatively long pusher head il, orto lengthen the body portion IIJ.
t will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope oi' the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
l. A garment hanger comprising a body portion having a bore longitudinal thereof and square in cross section at one end, a threaded longitudinal stud projecting from its opposite end, a garment engaging member having a square shank slidable in said square bore, a square enlargement adjacent the outer end of said shank extending upwardly through said slot to limit` outward movement of the shank and for use as a gripping member.
2. A garment hanger comprising a horizontal bodyportion having a longitudinal bore at one end, a threaded stud projecting longitudinally from the other end, a garment engaging member having a threaded bore for engagement with said stud for longitudinal adjustment thereon, a second garment engagement member, a shank integral therewith slidable in said bore and having spaced transverse bores therein, the said body being provided With a lateral longitudinal slot adjacent said shank, a pin engageable in any of the transverse ybores of the shank extending through said slot to limit outward movement of the shank, spring means in said body for outward urging of said shank, and a member integral with 'and extending upwardly of .said second garment engaging member to serve as a gripping means to oom- 4 press the device prior to insertion thereof into a garment.
