This invention relates to articles of stationery and more particularly to an improved form of holder for a supply of sheets of memorandum paper.

An object of my invention is to provide a holder which, whil being capable of receiving sheets of paper made up into a pad, is also adapted to operate with equal facility to receive a supply of loose sheets and to hold them substantially motionless with respect to the surface upon which the holder rests, thus enabling the user 'to write memoranda with one hand and leave the other hand free for such purposes as operating a telephone or turning pages of a book from which notes are being made.

A further object in this connection is to design the retaining means in such a manner that it is fully releasable quickly and easily so that after one or more pages have been filled with memoranda it or they can be removed to expose a fresh sheet with a minimum of inconvenience.

Another object is to provide a holder for sheets of scratch paper as described wherein the means for releasably retaining the sheets securely in position is designed in such a manner that it provides a recess or opening for the reception of a calendar, thus adding materially to the convenience afforded by the holder as a piece of ofiice equipment.

A still further object is to provide a memorandum pad holder as described of simple and pleasing design, thus adapting it for use in either a business oifice or the home, and yet which is of inexpensive and durable construction adapted for quantity production at low cost.

A further object is to provide a scratch pad holder as described wherein the paper-retaining means, either with or without a calendar, presents a surface of ample expanse to receive advertising matter, which fact, coupled with its relatively low cost adapts it for use as a piece of advertising matter to be given away without charge, as Well as an article to be ofiered for sale.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holder for sheets of memorandum paper incorporating the principles of the present invention.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal, medial, vertical sectional view with the plane of section indicated by the line 2-2 of Figure 1 and the direction of view by the arrows.

Referring to the form of my invention which is illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, it will be observed that all portions of this form of the device are of relatively thin construction. Because of the thin nature of its constituent parts, this form is ideally suited for manufacture from sheet material, either sheet metal or thin sheets of plastic. However, most of the parts of the device are not necessarily thin, but can be formed of wood, or of cast material.

The tray 9| is conveniently formed by deflecting upwards the front and lateral side edges of the otherwise fiat bottom 92, thus forming the front wall 92 and two opposite side walls 94, respectively which aid in retaining the sheets of memorandum paper (not shown) in orderly, stacked relation upon the writing platform, or bottom 92. Furthermore, since the head is hollow, it is most convenient to form it of such shape and size that it is adapted to receive within itself a calendar which is available upon the market in the form of a substantially cylindrical cartridge I06 havingtwo small knobs I01 and i 08 accessible at one end and which may be turned to expose through an Opening I09 in a. side wall of the cartridge I06, any selected portion of a continuous strip Ill rolled upon two rollers H2 and I I3 to which the knobs I01 and I08, respectively, are connected.

Preferably, "non-skid" feet H4 are permanently attached to the under surface of the tray 9|.

I claim:

In a desk appliance of the character described, means providing a writing platform adaptedv to receive a supply of sheets of paper, guide means carried thereby engageable with edgesof said sheets to hold them in stackedrelation, and means for releasably retaining said sheets upon said platform comprising a continuation of said platform extending rearwardly therefrom, thence upwardly, forwardly, and downwardly toward said platform in position toengage the uppermost of said, sheets and thereby retain allof said sheets in writing position upon said platform, the rearwardly, upwardly, forwardly, and downwardly extending portions of said continuation defining a hollow head adapted to receive a calendar cartridge and having an aperture therein through which said calendar is visible.
