(Cl. 160384) This'invention relates to and has for its prlmary object the provision of a mounting means for securing fabric coverings or linings to walls and other parts in the interior of aircraft cabins, railroad cars, boats, ships, automobiles, and the like, which means may be quickly and easily applied, will prove of pleasing and ornamental appearance and hide all seams and joints of the applied coverings or linings.
Another object of the invention ls'to provide a mounting means such as described which is of simple construction, economical to manufacture, may be readily and easily applied to flat, curved or irregular surfaces with equal eflicacy and easily removed and repeatedly used. I
A further object of this invention is to provide amounting means such as described which includes a base strip and a cover strip, the former of which is adapted to be detachably secured in place and has means thereon for readily and detachably securing in place fabric or like sheets or pieces as coverings for walls, panels, seats and other objects in the interior of vehicle cabins, compartments, etc., or in the rooms of dwellings and on articles of furniture; the cover strip being constrtcted and arranged so thatit may be quickly and easily detachably applied to conceal the base strip and joints or seams of the fabric sheets or. like pieces, and having locking means thereon adapted to snap into interlocking engagement with the fabric holding means on the base stripto detachably secure the cover strip to.

With the foregoing objects in view, together with such other objects and advantages as may subsequently appear, the invention resides in the parts and in the combination, construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and cover strip;

Referring more in detail to the drawings, it is seen that one embodiment of my invention includes a base strip 9 preferably made of thin,
flexible and resilient sheet metal and having openings l0 therein for studs H or the like employed with push-on or other suitable. nut-like fastenings l2-to detachably secure the strip to a wall or other member IS in preparation for mounting sheets'or pieces of fabric M in place.
.In having the base strip flexible and resilient it may be applied to curved or irregular surfaces as readily as to flat surfaces and will conform thereto without bulging or being distorted objectionably.
Means is provided on the base strip for detachably securing one or more of the fabric sheets or pieces I thereto and as here shown comprises a plurality of prongs bent over from'the side edgesof the base strip and arranged in staggered relation to one another. The prongs are tapered to provide sharp pointed free ends facing inwardly so that the fabric pieces I4 may be hooked thereto with the prongs piercing the fabric and the edges of the fabric'disposed in closely spaced relation and lying upon the base strip as shown in Figs. 3 and-4. It now is apparent that. after the strip 9 has been secured to the wall or support IS, the fabric may be quickly and easily hooked onto the prongs 16 to make a flat and neat joint or seam,as shown in Figs. 3 and 4; However, if desired the fabric may be hooked to the base strip before such strip is secured in place.
- In accordance with this invention an elongated cover strip [8 considerably wider than the base strip and made of resilient flexible sheet metal or similar material is constructed and arranged to fit over and conceal the base strip 9 as well as the seam or joint of the fabric with the base strip and the portions of the fabric lying upon the base strip, there being a fastening means on the cover strip providing for a quick interlocking thereof with the fabric holding prongs 16 whereby the cover strip is securely but detachably held in place. As here shown this the cover strip, such flanges extending inwardly and normally lying in spaced and substantially parallel relation to the bod of the cover strip, the

Another modified form of my invention, as
shown in Figs. 9 and 10, includes an angle iron (right angular) form of base strip 21 for an- I plication to the right angular wall member 28 of an inside corner, as shown in Fig. 10, there being inwardly turned pointed prongs 29 onto which the fabric sheets 30 and 3d are hooked. This base'strip is ecured in place by suitable fastenings 32 and is covered by a cover or molding strip 33 similar to the one 24 shown in Fig. 8. The strip 33 is concavo convex but has the flared attaching flanges 34 on its convex side so that when applied the concave side is outermost for a better flt in the corner. It should be noted that when the cover strip is in place'as shown inFiss. 5 and 6, it will be bowed outwardly so as to present a transversely curved or convex outer surface with the curved outer edges 2| thereof lying against or close to the fabric pieces, thereby not only entirely con-. cealingthe base strip and seam or joint of the made of resilient metal or somewhat",springy" plastic or the like so that the flanges 34 are yieldable and may be forced past the likewise yieldable prongs l8v into interlocked engagement therewith, as shown in Fig. 10, to hold the cover strip in place effectively covering and concealing fabric pieces butprovlding a neat andsmooth fixture which is of ornamental appearance.
To-remove the cover strip it is only necessary to press against the sides to bring oneof thehook edges 2|! to the position shown in Fig. 4, free of the prongs I 6 along one edge of the base strip, whereupon the other hook edge 20 may be readily disengaged from the other et of prongs.
A modified form of base strip shown in Fig 7 includes a flat, flexible resilient metal base strip 22 identical with the strip 9 except that the prongs 23are struck out from such strip at points adjacent the side edges of the latter, said prongs being arranged in the same staggered relation as are the prongs IS. The cover strip I8 is applicable to the strip 22 in the same manner as it is applied to the base strip 9.
Fig. 8 shows a modified form of cover strip 24 whichls applicable alike to the base strips 9 and 22. This modified coverstrip is made of resilient sheet material, for example, a springy plastic,
or flanges 25 which extend divergently therefrom for the full length of the strip and are adapted to extend. under the prongs on the base strip 9 as shown in Fig. 8 or onthe prongs 23 of base the base and the joints of the fabric therewith. Figs. 11 and 12 illustrate another form of my invention wherein a base strip 38 of right angular form is provided with resilient prongs 31 on the -outside thereof so that the base strip may be secured by, fastenings 38 as shown in Fig. 12 to the wall member 39 on an "outside" corner. A modified form of cover strip is shown applied to thebasestrip in Fig. 12 to cover the latter and the joints or the fabric sheets 4| and Q2 hooked onthe prongs 31. The cover strip 40 is substantially semi-circular and has attaching flanges 43 extending longitudinally of the concave surface thereof near the longitudinal edges of the strip,
for interlocking engagement with the-prong 31.
This coverstrip is made of somewhat resilient or "springy plastic or like material so that it may be sprung into interlocking engagement with the base, with its flanges 4.. in tensioned contact with the resilient prongs 31. As this form of cover strip projects outwardly in rounded'form from the inside corner it is relatively thick and rigid so that it will withstand being bumped against moving objects around or a lacent such an exposed corner, and will not be subject to bein dislodged. v
Fig. 13 shows the same form of my invention as iliustratedin Figs. 4 and 5 but as applied to a wall structure such that but one cover sheet 5 is secured by the base strip, as at a door or window frame. In this connection it should be noted that any of the forms here shown could be used to fasten one instead of two fabric sheets as desired. p

3. In a mounting means for joining and supporting covering sheets of fabric, a base strip adapted to be mounted on the surface of an object to which such sheets are to be applied, fastening elements on said strip for joining edges of said sheets and holding them on said strip, a cover strip adapted to overlie and conceal said edges and said base strip, and hook formations on the longitudinal edges of said cover strip for interlocking with said fastening elements at points concealed by said cover strip to secure the latter to the base strip in position concealing said edges and the base strip.
4. In a mounting means for joining and supporting covering sheets of fabric, a base strip adapted to be mounted on the surface of an object to which such sheets are to be applied, fastening elements on said strip for joining edges of said sheets and holding them on said strip, a cover strip adapted to overlie and conceal said edges and said base strip, and hook formations integral therewith and lying on the inner face thereof at points spaced inwardly 01' the longitudinal edges of the cover strip and subject to being hooked onto said fastening elements to detachably secure the cover strip to said base strip.

In a mounting means for .supporting a covering sheet of-fabric, a base strip adapted to be mounted on an object to whichsuch a sheet is to be applied, fastening elements on said strip for supporting the sheet on said strip, a cover strip adapted to overlie and conceal said base strip, and hook formations on said cover strip for interlocking with said fastening elements at points concealed by said cover strip to secure the latter to the base strip in position concealing said base strip and the joint of the sheet therewith. said base strip being of right angular formation in cross section and adapted to be applied to a corner structure.

In a mounting means for holding in place a covering sheet of fabric, a base strip adapted 7 to be mounted on a structure to which such a sheet is to'be' applied. prongs formed on said strip'overlylng one face thereof and facing inwardly so that an edge portion of the covering sheet may be hooked thereto to overlie said strip, a cover strip of greater width-than said base strip, and fastening means embodied in said cover strip on the inner side and inwardly spaced from the side edgestherepf for interlocking engagement with said prongs to detachably secure the cover strip to the base strip, said base strip being of angular cross section and adapted to be fitted to a corner structure from or to which the fabric sheetis to extend. 4 i 11. In a mounting means for holding in place a covering sheet of fabric, -a base strip adapted to be mounted on a structureto which such a sheet is to bev applied, prongs formed on said strip overlying one face thereof and facing inwardlyso that an edge portion of the covering sheet may be hooked thereto to overlie said strip, a
cover strip of greater width than said base strip,
and fastening means embodied in said cover strip on the inner side and inwardly spaced from ment with said prongs to detachably secure the cover strip to the base strip, said base strip being of angular cross section and adapted to be fitted to a corner structure to which the fabric sheet-is to extend, said cover strip being curved in cross section and having its convex side outermost when secured to said base string 13.
