(01. 155-76) The present invention relates to the new and useful improvement in rocking chairs of a type designed primarily for use as a porch or lawn chair and has for an important object to provide means for adjusting the back andseat portions of the chair to permit occupancy of the chair in a reclining position, when desired.

A further object of invention is to provide a device of this characterof simple and practical construction, which is strong and durable, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which th same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational view.

Figure 2 is'a front elevational view.

Figure 3 is a side elevational view showing the chair in reclining position.

Figure 4 is a perspective view of one side of the canopy support.

Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention the numeral 5 designates a pair of rockers connected in spaced parallel relation by means of the front and rear cross rods 6 and l.

A pair of front legs 8 are pivotally attached at their lower ends to the front cross rod 6 and extend upwardly therefrom.

A pair of side rails 9 are pivotally attached at their front ends to an intermediate portion of the legs 8 by means of a transverse rod ID, the rear ends of the side rails 9 being curved downwardly to form rear legs ll positioned inside the rockers 5 and connected adacent their lower ends by a cross rod l2 which extends outwardly at each side of the legs II and adapted for selectively seating in notches l3 in the upper edges of the rockers 5. r

A back designated generally at ll includes a pair of upstanding side members I! pivotally attached by means of pins I8 to the side rails 9 at the juncture thereof with the rear legs II. The upper ends of the side members I! of the back are connected by a cross rod 11.

Having thus described the invention what I claim is:

1. A chair comprising a pair of rockers, front legs pivotally attached to the front ends of the rockers and rising therefrom, side rails pivotally attached to an intermediate portion of the front legs and extending rearwardly therefrom with the rear ends of said side rails extended downwardly to form rear legs, means selectively supporting, said rear legs at longitudinally spaced points on said rockers a back rising from said side rails and arms connecting the back to the upper ends of the front legs.

2. A chair comprising a pair of rockers, a pair of front legs pivotally attached at the front ends of the rockers and rising therefrom, a pair. of side rails pivotally attached at an intermediate portion of said front legs and extending rearwardly therefrom, said side rails having downwardly extended rear ends, said rockers having notches in its upper edge, a cross rod connecting the lower ends of said side rails and adapted for selective engagement in said notches, a back pivoted to the side rails and rising therefrom and arms having their front ends pivoted to the upper ends of the front legs and pivoted at their rear ends to said JOE HAICH.
