CREAM-PITCHER OR MOLASSES-JUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 241,183, dated May 10, 1881.
Application filed October 20, 1880.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH M. BAUMAN, of Pittsburg, in the county of' Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, havefK/vented a new and useful Improvement iN dream-Pitchers or Molasses-Jugs; anfl 'I do hereby declare that the following is eti/ll and exact description thereof, refereNLeb :eing had to the accompanying drawings, And to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improvement in cream-pitchers or molasses-jugs; and it conslsts in providing said pitchers and jugs with a detachable lid, which will automatically rise while in the act of pouring from said pitchers or jugs and close down over the lip of the pitcher or jug when ceasing to pour, as will hereinafter more fully appear.
To enable others skilled in the art with which myinvention is most nearly connected to make and use it, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of my specification, Figure l is a vertical section of an ordinary cream-pitcher furnished with my improved detachable and automatic lid. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a double-lip and double-handle cream-pitcher furnished with my improved detachable and automatic lids. Fig. 3 is a vertical section ot' the same at line x of Fig. 2.

To the transverse piece B is hinged at e the lidf, as shown in Fig. 1, and lidsgg, as shown in Fig. 2.
To the under side of the lidsfg g, near their point ot' pivot, is a weighted rod, h, the axis of which is arranged at such angle with relation tothe plane ot' the lids that in the act of pouring from the pitcher the lid will, through the medium of the weighted rod h, rise and close down in the act of ceasing to pour.
The lid, being detachable from the pitcher or jug, will be of great advantage in the operation of cleaning them.
The advantage ot' au automatic lid opening and closing as hereinbefore described is too apparent to require description.
Having thus described my improvement, what I claim as of my in vention is- The detachable transverse piece B, having anges O D, and a lid or lids furnished with weighted rod or rods h, and hinged to said piece B, whereby said lid orlids will open and close, substantially as herein described.
