9 Claims. (Cl. 132-33) My invention relates to hair-waving devices.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide an improved hair-waving device by means of which the waving and setting may be carried out as a continuous process.
A further object is vto provide an improved device for drying the hair quickly and thoroughly.
A further object is to provide an improved hair-waving and drying device in which the dry air is delivered inside the coiled tress of hair to a chamber, the walls of which are of mesh material which forms a support for the hair wound thereon and causes the uniform distribution of the Warm air4 over the whole inner surface of the tress. i
A further object is to provide an improved hair-waving device in which the tress is Wound on a spool or the like, Vthe spool being provided with a chamber, the walls of which are formed of a mesh fabric which forms a, support for the hair wound thereon, whereby when the tress is wound on the spool and a liquid chemical is applied to the hair, the hair will be quickly saturated throughout, the air conned within the tress escaping rapidly through the supporting mesh fabric and being replaced by the liquid chemical.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the description and claims.
In the drawing, in which an embodiment of my invention is shown,
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a haireurling device;
Fig. 2 is an axial sectional view of the construction shown in Fig. l, substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view substantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
The construction shown comprises a spool-like member about which the strand or tress of hair is wound for curling and drying. This spool-like member includes a central air-distributing tube I having a connection 2 at one end for the warm air supply tube 3, and having a, multiplicity of air outlet openings 4 distributed therealong and thereabout, a helical spring 5 surrounding a. tube and a porous tubular element 6 surrounding and supported by the helical spring 5 formed of openmesh fabric about which the tress or strand of hair 1 is wound. This open-mesh fabric causes the air to be distributed uniformly and freely underneath all parts of the tress of hair wound thereabout. Any suitable material may be used for the open-Work mesh fabric, such as very finely spun glass, One end of the tube may be closed by a plug 8 threaded on the end of the tube and forming a support for one end of the helical spring 5 and of the fabric element. The other end of the tube may be screwed into a plug S which forms a, support for the other end of the spring and for the other end of the tubular fabric element.
In use, the free end of a strand or tress of hair is applied to the spool and the tress is wound about the tubular element 5, usually substantially covering this element, and theY tress is secured in place by means of a cord I0 or its equivalent, fastened at I I to one end of the spool and detachably secured at I2 to the other end of the spool. `'Ihe heated drying air is turned on to cause the `warm air lto be distributed from the multiplicity of outlet openings 4 in the tube and to be still further distributed by the tubular openwork fabric element 5. By the use of this device, the curling, drying and setting may be accomplished as a single continuous operation without the necessity for re-setting the hair.
The construction provides a chamber, annular in cross section, between the tube I and the porous tubular element 6 into which chamber the air is delivered from the air outlet openings 4. The air is thus distributed over the entire inner surface of the mesh fabric of the tubular element 5 and oozes out through this fabric so as to be distributed over the entire inner surface of the tress to cause a distribution of the drying air throughout the entire tress.
The device may be used to advantage in waving hair without the hair drying feature, particularly when a liquid chemical is applied to the tress when Wound on the tubular element. The porous mesh fabric of the tubular element 6 permits the free escape of the air confined within the tress as it is displaced by the liquid chemical applied to the tress.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is desired, therefore, that the invention be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A hair-waving device comprising a tube having means for connection with an air supply and having a multiplicity of air outlets distributed therealong and thereabout, a helicoidal coil surrounding said tube, and a tubular element surrounding said coil about which a strand or tress of hair may be wound, said tubular element being formed of an open-mesh fabric.
2. A hair-waving device comprising a tube having means for connection with an air supply and having a multiplicity of air outlets distributed therealong and thereabout, a helicoidal coil surrounding said tube, and a tubular element surrounding said coil about which a strand or tress of hair may be wound, said tubular element being formed of an open-mesh fabric and said fabric element increasing in diameter from its medial portion toward its ends.
3. A hair-waving device comprisingfa tube having means for connection with 'an air supply and having a multiplicity of air outlets distributed therealong and thereabout, a tubular elementI surrounding said tube about which a strand or tress of hair may be wound, said tubularelement being formed of an open-mesh fabric, and a plug of larger diameter than the tube closing one end thereof and supporting an end of said tubular fabric element.

A hair-waving device comprising a tube having means for connection with an air supplyand having a multiplicity of air outlets distributed therealong and thereabout, a helicoidal coil surrounding said tube, a tubular element surrounding said coil about which a strand or tress of hair may be wound, said tubular element being formed of an open-mesh fabric, and a plug of larger diameter than the tube closing one end thereof and supporting an end of said tubular fabric element and one end of said coil.

A hair-waving device comprising a tube having means for connection with an air supply and having a multiplicity of air outlets distributed therealong and thereabout, and a tubular element surrounding said tube about which a strand or tress of hair may be Wound, said tubular element being formed of an open-mesh fabric and being spaced from said tube to provide an air chamber between the tube and the tubular element.

A hair-waving device comprising a tube having means for connection with an air supply and having a multiplicity of air outlets distributed therealong and thereabout, a helicoidal coil surrounding said tube, and a tubular element surrounding said coil about which a strand or tress of hair may be Wound, said tubular element being formed of an open-mesh fabric and being spaced from said tube to provide an air chamber between the tube and the tubular element.

A hair-waving devicecomprising a tube having an opening for the entrance of material at one end thereof and having a multiplicity of outlets for the material distributed therealong and thereabout, and a tubular element surrounding said'tube about which a strand or tress of hair may be Wound, said tubular element being formed of an open-mesh fabric and being spaced from said tube to provide an air chamber between the tube and the tubular element.
8. A hair Waving device comprising a tube having an opening for the entrance of material at one end thereof and having a multiplicity of outlets for the material distributed therealong and thereabout, a helicoidal coil surrounding said tube, and a tubular element surrounding said coil about which a strand or tress of hair may be wound, said tubular element being formed of an open-mesh fabric and being spaced from said tube to provide an air chamber between the tube and the tubular element.
9. A hair Waving device comprising an elongated core, spaced-apart supporting elements surrounding said core throughout a substantial portion of its length, and a tubular element surrounding said supporting elements and spaced thereby from said core, about which tubular element a tress of hair may be wound, said tubular element being formed of a flexible open mesh fabric.
