UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MILTON B. HOOD, OF LYNN, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELFAND MARTIN O. HOOD,
OF EVERETT, MASSACHUSETTS.
BOTTLE-H OLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,956, dated April 12, I881.
- Application filed January 31, 1881. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON B. H001 of Lynn, ofthe county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful lmprovement in Perfumery-Bottle Cases or Holders; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a top view, and Fig. 2 a. transverse section, of a bottlecase provided with my invention. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of it, showing its platforms as turned up and its bottles in their cells. Fig. 4 is a like section of it, showing the platfbrm as turned down and the two rear ranges of bottles as resting on such platforms and elevated above each other and the firstrange.
My improvement is to enable each range of bottles in rear of the first oneto be supported at an elevation above that range directly in front of it, in order that their labels may be seen to advantage, the bottles of the several ranges being on a level with each other when the platforms are turned up into vertical positions.
In the drawings, A denotes a case, made of pasteboard or other suitable material, and deeper in rear than in front, and divided lengthwise and crosswise by partitions a b, so as to form within it two or more parallel ranges of cells, 0, for holding bottles d. The bottoms of such cells are level or in one plane, or termimm at the bottom of the case, in order that when the bottles are resting on such bottoms the tops of the bottles may be in one plane, or substantially so,the bottles being supposed to be alike in height. The longitudinal partition a, which is next in rear of the part-c of the case, is to have its upper edge higher than that of the part 0. So the back of each range of cells should extend above the first of the said ranges. Furthermore, there is to each range of cells in rear of the first range a cover or turned-down platform, f, which I prefer to have hinged or connected with the back of the range, so as to be capable of being turned from a vertical down into a horizontal position upon the front of the range, in order when the bottles of such range are placed on the platform to support them at a higher elevation than they would be when on the bottoms of the cells of such range. The case so made I usually provide with a cover to slip down over it, as a cover usually does, on the body of a box.
The advantage of my invention in the exposure to view in the window or on a shelf or in or on the show-case of a shop of bottles of perfumery will be readily comprehended by most, if not all, dealers in such matters. My said invention enables each range of bottles in rear of the first one to besupported at a higher elevation than that of the range in its immediate front, and also admitting, when the platform or platforms are up, of the bottles of the several ranges being supported on a level with each other, in order for them to be covered by the cover when properly placed on or applied to the case.
1 do not claim a stepped show -case*'provided with banks of boxes or receptacles of 7 like design arranged with their bottoms at different altitudes, for in my improved bottleholder all the cells have their bottoms in one plane, or even with that of the bottom of the case, whereby the bottles, when resting on the bottom of the cells, are on one level, so as to be supported by a cover when in place on the box or case.
What I claim as my invention is as follows,
viz
The bottle-holding case provided not only with ranges of cells having their bottoms in one plane, or at the bottom of such case, but
with. a movable platform to each range except the front one, each of such platforms in rear of the front one being arranged at a height greater than that immediately in front of it, all being substantially as set forth.
MILTON B. HOOD. Witnesses:
R. H. EDDY, S. N. PIPER.
