UNITED STATES PATENT OFFrctt MORRIS PAOHOLDER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
SMOKERS KIT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,832, dated April 5, 1881. Application filed October 18, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mourns PACHOLDER, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Smokers Kits, of which the following is a full, true, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention is a smokeis kit constructed, as fully described hereinafter, to afford a convenient receptacle for forms of tobacco and their coverings, protect the same from injury, and permit the readyremoval of such as are Wanted without disturbing the remainder.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved smokers kit, a portion of the body being broken away to show the manner of storing the contents. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, illustrating the mode of 00V erin g a form of tobacco in making a cigarette. In a separate application for Letters Patent I have described a mode of putting up finelydivided tobacco by making the same into forms or cylinders A, which are afterward used for chewing, smoking in pipes, or covered with paper, as cigarettes To protect such forms, and to prevent breaking and disintegration until required for use, I construct a box, B, the body a of which corresponds in width to the length of the forms, and in length to the space occupied by a series of such formsan ranged side by side, ten being shown, and in depth to several superposed layers, so that there can be no abrading of the contents and little or no movement of forms when thebox is disturbed or transported. The box is provided with a flanged cover or lid, b, of sufficient depth to receive a body of cigarette-paper suitably secured, and which may be arranged as a tablet, f, each sheet easily detachable from the package and gummed along one edge, 00.
To prevent breakage of the forms A in the course of removal, I employ strips of paper or fabric 0, upon folds of which the layers are suc-V rein ain.
On the removal of a form it may be made into a cigarette by detachingtthe outermost sheet of the tabletf, placing the form therein, as shown in Fig. 2, rolling the paper around the same, and securing the gummed edge by pasting it down onto the body after moistenin g the same.
K is a slip of oiled paper used to cover the forms to prevent access of moisture, the strip extending around and beneath and over the forms.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A smokers kit consisting of a box having a body adapted to receive and retain securely series of tobacco-forms, and a lid provided at the inside with a package of cigarettepaper, the sheets of which are gummed at the edges and detachably secured to the lid, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, in a smokers kit, ofa box containing and retaining securely detachable uncovered forms of tobacco, and provided with a tablet of separately-detachable cigar ette-covers in sheets adapted to said forms, substantially as set forth.
