Description

March 5, 1946. 2. A. BRUEGGER PANTS GUARD AND REFLECTOR Filed Nov. 27, 1945 BY W W%.
Patented Mar;- 5, 1. I
UNITED" The invention relates to a reflector attachment for trousers, and more especially to a combined trouser guard and reflector.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of'an article of this character, wherein the leg portions of trousers can be conveniently held tucked about the limbs of a person, especially one when operating a bicycle or the like, to avoid the catching of these portions in working parts thereof, and such device serves as a reflector effective for signalling purposes.
Another object of the invention'is the provision of an article of this character, which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable, readily and easily applied and. removed, neat in ap-. pearance, comfortable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred form of the invention, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the article constructed in accordance with the invention "and in applied position.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure, 1.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2' showing a modification.
Figure 4 is a similar view to Figure 3 showing another modification.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4 showin a further modification.
Figure 6 is a sectional view of a further modification. I
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail the article constituting the present invention comprises an inherently resilient open loop-like member 5, preferably made from metal and is designed as a pants clip or guard for engagement about the leg portion 6 of trousers to hold such leg portion tucked about the limb of a person wearing the clip or guard to avoid the leg portion from becoming caught in the working parts of a bicycle or the like when a wearer is riding the same.
A reflector button I is mounted on the outer side of the pants guard 5 at any point or slightly To he rear of the vertical center of the guard.
STATES" fe rsurrorr-lcg I Application November 27, 1943, Serial No; 512,020 2 Claims. (oi. ss--s0) which is carried by the back plate 9 of the resecure the reflector button I to the pants guard.
.opening ill in the pants guard 5. The pants As shown in Figure 2, the reflector button I may be secured to the pants guard 5'by a. rivet 8 flector button and, which passes through an guard 5 is provided at its inner side about the opening ID with a conical recess ll into which the inner end. of the rivet 8 is upset, and the pants guard is provided at its outer side about the opening with a projection I! which contacts with the rear side of the reflector button 1, whereby to preventany inward projection of the rivet 8.
In Figures 3, 4 and 5 are shown modified forms of the means for securing the reflector button 1 to the pants guard 5. The form ofthe reflector button securing means shown in Figure 3 comprises a loop l3which is secured to the rivet 8 of the reflector button and which embraces the pants guard 5. The loop l3 may be formed of a single strip of metal which is secured centrally between its ends to the rivet 8 and which has its end portions bent into embracing relationto the pants guard 5 to effect the formation of the loop and at the same time In Figure 4 the reflector button attaching means comprises a spring clip H which is secured to the rivet 8 of the reflector button I and which is adapted to embrace the pants guard 5 with its lower ends located below the lower edge of the pants guard. In Figure 5, the attaching means for the reflector button 1 is in the form of a loop of inverted ,U-form. The loop 15 is secured to the rivet 8 of the reflector button 'I and is secured to the pants guard by a bolt I6 which passes through the lower ends of the loop in contact with the lower edge of the pants guard. As shown in Figure 6, the clip, which is here designated l4=,'for securing the reflector button to the pants guard, may have its outer side recessed for the reception of the reflector button I, and has said side thereof provided with tongues H which contact with the outer side oi the reflector button to secure the button to the clip, If desired, the back plate of the reflector button 1 may be welded directly to the pants guard 5 or to any of the clips I3, I 4 or l5.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be understood that the reflector button I may be applied to the pants guard 5 when the latter is placed upon the market or 'it may be'easily and quickly applied to those pants guards already i use. The location of the reflector button I on the pants guard 6 places it at the outer sideof the ankle when the guard is applied. v move in a circular path when the bicycle is being pedalled and will therefore function as azmoving signal. The refiector button I is secured by its rivet 8 to the loop l3, spring I4 and loopiS, in the manner in which it is secured directly to the. pants guard 5, whereby to eiiect a substantial connection between the reflector button and the pants guard.
What is claimed is:
It' will same from the supporting member and means on said attaching member ior retaining said member on said supporting-member.
'. communicating therewith adjustably mounted on' 1. An article of the kind described, comprising a supporting member, a reflector button, an attachingmember carried by the reflector button and adjustably mounted on the supporting member, the attaching member formed with a.
boss engaging the back oi the button to space the 2. An article of the kind described, comprising a pants guardan attaching member formed with a, conical boss having a center opening, and a conical recess back of'the center opening and said pants guard, areflectorbutton, a rivet carried by the reflector button and passing through the opening in the bosswith the recess receiving the head of the rivet, and the boss engaging the rear side of the reflector button to space the same from the attaching member and. means on said attachingmember for retaining said member on said supporting member.
