Thepresent invention relates topaste tube receptacles, closures and supports;

Referring now to the drawing, the unit may comprise a foot H], from the rear of which rises the floor, back or lateral tube rest II. From the sides of the foot, side walls l2 rise the height of the rear wall and preferably taper off at l3 near their outer or upper ends and the are continuous and unitary with the floor I I. The device is devoid of a second end wall and is open at the end opposite the foot. Securely affixed in the foot is a stud M which rises therefrom and extends generally parallel to the back wall II.

The unit is preferably provided with an easel l anchored at its end IE to the under face of the floor ll near the upper end thereof, and an easel strut ll anchored at its end I8 to the lower end of the floor, and serving to support the unit in the upright tilted position shown in Fig. 4. For stability the foot is desirably provided with a wedgeshaped extension l9 that rests upon the table or shelf. Desirably, also, the upper end of the unit is perforated as at 20 to permit alternative support thereof by hanging from a nail or hook.

The rack unit as above described and generally shown in Fig. 4 might be made of plastic or the like for convenient permanent use. It might obviously be made as a multiple rack, to accommodate a plurality of. tubes in side by side relation.-

The invention is desirably incorporated in the original carton in which the tube is sold at retail.

As shown in Fig. 6 a cardboard insert 28 may be snugly fitted into the shallow foot receptacle to position the tube plugging stud [4 which is securely mounted therein. The insert 28 may comprise a rectangular band closed upon itself as at 30 to afford a top wall 29 and a bottom wall 3| in which is anchored the cylindrical shank 32 of the stud It, the tapered end of which protrudes thereabove. The insert 28 fits snugly and frictionally into the foot receptacle 24 and may, if desired, be glued or cemented therein.

Preferably, the easel piece is of height and width slightly greater than the rear of the box to serve as a rest 34 as best appears in Fig. 1 for the rim of the conventional cover 35. The easel members which underlie the bottom of the closed box may be held in place by a removable paper band 36 about the closed box.

As shown, the sealed bottom 3'! of the paste tube T is retained against the floor of the box by the engagement therewith of the stud I4 so as to avoid looseness or rattling.

For use, the cover 35 may be discarded as may the cap 38 of the tube. The box element is conveniently set up as shown in Fig. 4, or hung against the wall by a hook or nail through aperture '20. The tube after use is readily guided into place along the lateral rest, that is, between the side walls l2 and along the floor II for its mouth 39 to become telescoped over the stud l4.

The carton thus affords the added utility of a convenient tube support and an effective tube closure readily sealed by a direct downward thrust. Even though of cardboard the combined support and closure will be adequate for the life of the tube, and is replaced upon purchase of a fresh tube.

As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely difierent embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope of the claims, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description, or shown in the accompanying drawing, shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A carton for a paste tube, comprising a blank folded to form a box having a floor, side walls, andone end wall and being open at the top and at the other end,'said endwall having a tapered stud projecting therefrom into the box and parallel to. said floor, and spaced therefrom, and serving as a retainer for the closed paste tube inthe carton, and when the open paste tube is guided from the open end of the, box between the side walls and along the floor thereof serving to plug and close said tube.

A combined paste tube support and closure,

comprising a back rest for the length of the paste tube, having a shallow receptacle at one end thereof, an insert telescopically fitted into said receptacle and a conical stud rising from said insert and serving to plug the open end of a paste tube the length of which is supported by said rest.

4. A combined paste tube carton and closure, comprising a rest for the length of the paste tube, having side walls rising therefrom, a shallow receptacle at one end of the carton, unitary with said rest and said side walls, an insert telescopically fitted into said receptacle and a stud rising from said insert serving to plug the open end of a paste tube, the length of which is supported :by said rest.

5. A combined paste tube carton and closure, comprising a shallow cardboard receptacle having uprising extensions from the rear and side walls thereof determining a lateral support for the open paste tube, a cardboard insert frame filling said receptacle and having a stud mounted therein and rising therefrom to plug the open paste tube resting uponsaid lateral support, the middle section of said support having an easel and an easel strut unitary therewith and hinged thereto near the opposite ends of the under face thereof.

6. A paste tube carton comprising a box, open at one end and at its face, the opposite end thereof being conformed as a shallow receptacle, an open cardboard frame snugly fitting and closing said receptacle, having, an upper and a lower wall and having a stud mounted in said walls, said stud serving to plug the open paste tu'be, easel means unitary with and'hinged to the under face of the carton, the end of said carton having wedge-shaped extensions to serve as'a stable rest therefor when supported by its easel.
