This' invention relates generally to accessory devices for typewriters and is directedmoreparticularly to a device for facilitating the making of corrections on a typed page. v

A principal object of the present invention is to provide a device which may be ymounted upon a typewriter as an accessory, bymeans o f which the making 'of corrections cna' typedpage may be easily and quickly accomplished without the usual operation of erasing and retyping the incorrectly typed letter.

The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a. part of the present invention, it being understood, however,l thatthe invention is notconned to a strict conformity with the showing of the drawings but may be changed or modified so long as such. changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

A misprint correcting device for a typewriter, comprising a means for supportingn in front of a typewriter `platen roll a paper ribbon roll having one gummed surface, a guide through which the end of the roll may be extended, the guide having an outlet from which a pbrtion of the ribbon end is projected, said outlet being positioned with respect to the typewriter platen roll whereby the projected portion of the ribbon will have its gummed surface in opposed relation with the platen roll, means for shifting the ribbon to project a portion of the end from the guide outlet, a moistening element shiftably supported between the platen roll and the projecting portion of the ribbon, a combined shearing and pressing means constructed and arranged to move against the gum free side of the projecting portion of the ribbon and shear' oif and press the gummed face of such portion against said moistening element and to press the moistened portion against a paper sheet overlying the platen roll, and means for effecting the shifting of the moistening element out of the path of movement of the sheared off moistened portion.

4. An attachment for a typewriter, comprising a guide adapted to be secured to the typewriter in front of the typewriter platen roll, a presser bar carried by the guide to align with the typewriter platen roll upon the side of the point struck by a type element to which the typed character moves automatically after the making of the typed impression on a paper sheet, a supporting means for a paper ribbon roll having one side face gummed, means for shifting the ribbon to position la portion thereof between an end of the presser bar and the platen roll, a moistening element shiftably supported between the platen roll and the projecting portion of the ribbon, cooperating means between the presser bar and an e'dge of the guide for shearing off the said portion of the ribbon upon movement of the presser bar toward the platen roll, means for effecting the shifting of the moistening element out of the path of movement of the sheared off moistened portion and said presser bar pressing the said portion of the ribbon against a paper sheet on the platen roll by the said forward movement.

5. A device of the character stated, for application to a typewriter, comprising a supporting guide, a presser bar mounted in said .guide for movement toward and away from the typewriter platen roll, the forward end of the presser bar -being designed to substantially conform to the platen roll, a reciprocable finger designed for connection with the ribbon to effect the advancement of the latter through the guide for the projection of a portion of the ribbon into position in front of the forward end of the presser bar, a

moistening wick,` a water 1 receptacle v'con'r'i'e'eted with the presser barto move therewith but'hav'- ing movement relative to lthe presser bar, said fwickbeing supported upon the side of the extended portion of the ribbon opposite from the -forward vend of the Vpresser bar, the ribbon guide and holder and the water receptacle vbeing movable with the presser bar toward the platen roll, the ribbon guide havinglimited movement relative to the presser bar, means for checking the advance movement of the water receptacle ahead of the presserbar movement whereby to bring the said portion of the ribbon in contact with said moistening wick, means for checking the forward movement of the ribbon guide after Ythe checking of movement of the water receptacle and before the presser |bar reaches the limit of its movement, and means operated -by the presser bar subsequent to the checking of the movement of the ribbon guide to cut-off the said portion of the ribbon and advance the same into contact with a paper sheet on the platen roll.

6. An attachment for a typewriter, comprising a guide adapted to be supported on a typewriter in front of the platen roll, a member reciprocably supported by the guide for movement toward and away from-the platen roll, a means for supporting a roll of gummed paper adjacent to said member, means movable independently of the member for feeding a portion of the paper into position between the member and the platen roll with the gummed side of the paper toward the platen roll, a moistening element shiftably supported between the member and the platen roll and between the platen roll and the shifted portion of the paper, and means for effecting relative movement between the shiftable moistening element, the projected portion of the paper and said member upon movement of the member toward the platen roll whereby to wipe the gummed surface of the said portion of the paper across the moistening element immediately preceding the application of the moistened paper portion to the surface to which it is to .be applied.

7. An attachment for a typewriter, comprising a guide designed to be secured to a typewriter in front of the platen roll thereof, a presser bar reciprocably supported by the guide, the presser bar having a forward end designed to press a moistened portion of a gummed paper ribbon against a sheet on the typewriter platen roll, a moistening unit comprising a receptacle, a moistening pad extending upwardly from the receptacle and adapted to be shifted to a lowered position, a guide carried lby the receptacle, said guide having the bar member slidably extended therethrough, spring means interposed between said guides to normally yieldably hold the moistening unit in an advance position with respect to the forward end of the bar member, spring means connected between the rst guide and the bar member and normally acting to yieldably hold the bar member in retracted position with respect to the platen roll, means for supporting a gummed paper roll upon the bar member and for guiding a portion of such a roll into position between the moistening pad and the forward end of the bar member, means carried by the bar member for advancing a portion of the paper into the stated position, and means for shearing off the advanced portion of the gummed paper from the roll for the movement of such sheared off portion by the bar member across the moistening pad toward the adjacent platen roll.
