Figure 6 is a transverse section on line 6--6 of Figure 1.
Referring in detail to the drawing, Figures 1 and 2 illustrate means for augmenting the strength of the pole l0 in the vicinity of the ground line l2. The pole is made of rolled or pressed steel of light gauge, substantially channel shape in cross section, as shown in Figure 6, and includes oppositely inclined side flanges I4 and I6 connected by a central web I8, the flanges having outturned wings 22 and 24 at their outer extremities.
Coacting with the lower end of the pole I0 is a relatively short anchorage post 25 which is substantially of the same cross-sectional shape as the pole l0. The extreme outer wings 26 and 28 of this anchorage post are adapted to lie substantially parallel to the wings 22-24 of the pole I0. As thus arranged, the two members I0 and 25 will jointly define a longitudinally extending cavity or chamber between them. This cavity preferably has inserted therein a creosoted Wooden filler block 30 of the cross-sectional shape shown in Figure 4, so as to make a neat t between the converging side flanges of the pole I0 and post 24. The members I0, 25 and 3D are detachably secured together as a unit by means of a through-bolt 32,
It is deemed important to provide means for holding the metallic channel-like pole I0 and post 25 in slightly spaced relationship, and this struck upy from -theewingsf offthe -pole orthe' post.- 'I'his spaced relationship of the component 'parts off-the assembled structureY provides *desirable strength values, aswell as fatigue distribution, andinsuresan adequate means for Vproviding ventilation between the pole andY post which de'- sirably'retards corrosion ofthe metal parts. The post 25-preferably has secured near'itslower ergv trom-ityV an anchorplate 36 whose loweredges 38 preferably*converge-soas to form a point to facilitateI driving.

Thus there is a temperature differential in different parts which results in an inherent weakness in the region of the ground line. By provision of the anchorage post reinforced by the Wooden ller block above described, this inherent weakness in prior art posts is overcome and thus the useful life of a pole of light gauge metal is materially increased.
From the foregoing, it is also apparent that the invention provides an improved type of pole, which is effectively reinforced in the vicinity of the region of the ground line, where prior metal poles have been inherently Weak -and subject to failure.` The anchor post-like member or component of the pole used in the region where it enters the ground, is of such design and arrangement that the parts can be quickly and easily installed and assembled in working position. Thus in the event of floods or windstorms, they can be readily set up so as to provide necessary utilities. Because of the inherent features of construction, after the emergency passes the parts can be readily dismantled for reuse in4 other localities.
While I have described quite precisely certain preferred structural details of the embodiments of the invention herein illustrated, it is to be understood that I am not limited thereto except where the claims recite specific structure, since various modications and substitutions of equivalents may be made by those skilled in the art without departnre from the invention as defined in the appended claims.
