Description

Dec. 25, 1945. J, SIMON 2,391,803
WATERPROOF PUSH BUTTON FOR TIMEPIECES Filed March 9, 1944 I JZ z/ 612 601' Patented Dec. 25, 1945 WATERiRGOF PUSH BUTTUN FOR TIMEPIECES John Simon, Trarnelan, Switzerland Application March 9, 1944, Serial No. 525,713 In Switzerland April 27, 1943 3 Claims.
This invention relates to a waterproof push button for time piece of the kind which cornprises a tubular packing joinedly placed between the shank of the push button and the guiding tube of the case. According to the invention a sleeve is engaged on the shank of the push button and caps the guiding tube; this sleeve acts under the action of the push button spring and by means of a ring adapted to freely slide between said tube and said shank n the packing so as to press it towards the interior of the case, against an inner flange of said tube.
The accompanying drawing illustrates by way of example, an embodiment of the invention in axial section.
In the drawing, I denotes the case band of a time piece case, for instance of a chronograph case; 2 is a tube screwed in the threaded bore of the case band I and formed as a guiding member for the central shank 3 of the push button destined, for instance, to operate a lever of the chronograph movement. The push button is provided, at its outward end, with a recessed crown 4 made integral with the shank 3.
In the space between the shank 3 and the tube 2 is placed a packing 5 of resilient material formed of three superposed washers. The middle washer 5 is provided with a bore which is wider than the shank 3 in order to reduce the friction surface of the shank in the packing. The inner washer 5" bears upon an inwardly turned flange 2 of the tube 2.
The outward end of the tube 2 is capped by a sleeve 6 engaged by the bore of its back on the shank 3 and having an outwardly turned flange 6 on which bears the lower spire of a coil spring 1 whose upper end bears on the bottom of the recess 8 of the crown 4. The sleeve 6, which may slide freely on the tube 2 acts continuously, under the action of the spring I, on a ring 9 which is also engaged on the shank 3 and adapted to slide freely through the space comprised between the shank 3 and the tube 2 above the packing 5 against which it bears by its rim 9'. The outward end of the tube 2 is provided with an inwardly turned setting l6 made after the packing 5 and the ring 9 have been placed home, in order to prevent accidental withdrawal of the ring 9 from the tube 2 especially at the time of manufacturing and assembling.
It is to be understood that under the action of the spring I, the ring 9 tends continually to press the packing 5 axially against the flange 2 of the tube 2, thus permitting to take up the radial play due to the wear of the packing.
What I claim is:
l. A waterproof push button for time piece comprising a guiding tube secured to the time piece case and having an inwardly flanged inner end, a central shank extending into said tube, a tubular packing interposed joinedly between said tube and said shank and bearing on the inner flange of the tube, a sleeve engaged on said shank and capping said tube, a ring also engaged on said shank and bearing on said packing, said ring being adapted to freely slide through the space between said tube and said shank, a coil spring adapted to press axially said sleeve against said ring, thus pressing said packing axially against said inner flange of said tube towards the interior of the case.
2. A waterproof push button for time piece as claimed in claim 1, wherein the tube is provided at its outer end with an inwardly turned setting, in order to prevent accidental withdrawal of said ring from said tube.
3. A waterproof push button for time piece comprising a guiding tube secured to the time piece case and having an inwardly flanged inner end, a central shank extending into said tube, said central shank having its outer end formed as a recessed crown, a tubular packing interposed joinedly between said tube and said shank and bearing on the inner flange of said tube, an outwardly flanged sleeve engaged on said shank and capping said tube, a ring also engaged on said shank and bearing 011 said packing, said ring bein adapted to freely slide through the space between said tube and said shank, a coil spring mounted between the bottom of said recessed cI'OWn and the outer flange of said sleeve, said coil spring being adapted to press axially said sleeve against said ring, thus pressing said packing axially against said inner flange of said tube towards the interior of the case.
