4' Claims.
This invention relates to clips, particularly to clips suitable to hold a suspendedarticle in position. It also relates to a tool to bend said clips.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a cli which can be attached to and suspended irom a ceiling or wall and which has flexible fingers that can readily be bent to a desired holding position.
Another object is to make such a clip that is simple in construction and can be produced in great quantities at a relatively low cost and that is possible to make from waste sheet metal material if necessary.
A further object is to make a tool of simple construction that will fit on said clip and bend each of said flexible fingers by a simple movement to the desired position.
The foregoing and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction such as is disclosed by the drawing and specification. The nature of the invention is such as to render it susceptible to various changes and modifications, and, therefore, I am not to be limited to said disclosure; but am entitled to all such changes therefrom as fall within the scope of my claims.

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my clips adhering to and extending downwardly from a ceiling, some 01 which clips extend through insulation and have their fingers bent to hold said insulation in place, while other of said clips are shown unbent.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of my clip.
Figure; 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of my clip for use where several layers of insulation varying in thickness are to be held in place.
F gure 4 is a perspective view of my bending tool applied to a clip and ready to bend it, the dot and dash line indicating the position of a clip finger after it has been bent to holding position.
Figure 5 is an end view of the bearing portion of said tool.
Figure 6 is a, fragmentary perspective view of a modified form of clip fingers.
As illustrated, my clip has a base or plate l0 with holes I l therein. When used to hold up insulating material such as mineral W001 Y or the like against a ceiling C said base is adhesively united to said ceiling by glue or other compound suitable for the purpose and hangs suspended in theposition shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. Or it may be fastened by nails or screws extending through said holes ll. Attached to said base is a shank l2 having a right angled plate l3 at one I end that is welded, riveted or otherwise united to said base Hi. In making my clip of metal or the like it saves material to make said shank l2 and said base III as separate parts; but both said base In and said plate l3 serve only as the base of my clip.
Said shank I2 has a slit l6 running from its outside edge inwardly part of its longitudinal distance which divides opposite sides of said shank into two equal halves constituting fingers l1. Said shank 12 extends through said insulating material Y and when the latter is in position next to the ceiling or the like said two fingers I! are then bent over in opposite directions at right angles to the remainder of said shank, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing. This holds the insulating material in place right under the ceiling or next to a wall, and it is all done by the simple operations of adhesively uniting said clips to the ceiling, forcing the insulating material onto the shank of the clip, and bending over said clip fingers onto said material.
In Figure 3 of the drawing a modified form or shank I 8 is shown which has a plurality of fingers l9 varying in length and separated by slots 20 or varying lengths. Where several layers of insulating material are used this type of shank I8 is suitable.
To facilitate the bending over of said fingers I provide a tool T which is preferably made of one piece of metal or other material. It has a handle portion 23, and a bearing portion 24 at a right angle thereto. In the outside end portion of said bearing portion 24 a laterally extending oflset claw 25 is formed which leaves a space 26 between said oflset claw 25 and the remainder oi said bearing 24. To use said tool it is positioned on said clip finger l'l so that'the latter extends into said space 26 whereby said finger is gripped between the bearing and claw of said tool. Upon pressing said bearing portion 24 against said finger II the latter bends at the point opposite said space 26 until it is bent at a right angle to the remainder of said bearing portion 24 as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing.

A construction clip comprising a flat base member and a shank member having a flat portion of less face area than and Joined to said base and said portion having longitudinally extending 30 from two opposite side edges of said base and having another portion extending from said flat portion at an angle thereto, the line or juncture of said two shank member portion; being located directly opposite an intermediate i'ace portion or said base and said line 01' juncture having a longitudinal extent and being spaced in a direction laterally thereof from said two opposite edges, a portion of said shank member other portion being twice divided and thereby providing three fingers.

A'construction clip comprising a flat base member and a shank member having a hat portion of less face area than and Joined to said base and said portion having longitudinally extending side edges spaced in a direction laterally thereof ifrom two opposite side edges of said base and having another portion extending from said flat portion at an angle thereto, the line 01 juncture of said two shank member portion; being located directly opposite an intermediate iace portion of said .base and said line of juncture having a longitudinal extent and being spaced in a direction laterally thereof from said two opposite edges, a portion of said shank member other portion having three fingers, one of said fingers extending outwardly to a point beyond another said finger.
