DISPLAY DEVICE FiledMay 26, 1944 WMM Patented Oct. 23, 1945 `UNITED STATES YPATENT OFFICE The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in display devices designed for decorating refrigerated meats and delicatessen show cases, store fixtures and the like, and embodies a flexible rope-like member to which fresh greens, such as parsley or the like, is secured and adapted for placing in a refrigerated meat showcase for decorating the same.
A further important object of the invention is to provide a decorative rope member of this character in which the parsley or other fresh produce is secured to one side of the rope-like member and providing a trough-likesupport within which the rope-like member isv positioned in order to support the vegetation uppermost in a proper display position. i
A further object is to provide a decorative ar The uncovered or bottom portion of the ropelike member 5 is supported in a trough-like member l0 which is preferably constructed of parafiin-coated cardboard in strip form and having saw tooth edges Il. The sides of the cardboard are folded along spaced parallel longitudinal lines l2 upwardly and inwardly toward each other to form the sides of the trough.
In using the device, the core'ii of the rope-like member 5 is saturated with water or other suitable liquid and placed in the trough support I0 with the parsley or other vegetation 8 uppermost, the edges of the trough-like member suppporting the parsley at the sides of the decorative strip of vegetation. The display device is then placed in a` showcase I3 and may extend around the ticle of `this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for 4the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, and wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional View through a showcase showing the rope-like display device in position therein.
Figure 2 is a side elevational View of a portion ofthe display device.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional View taken substantially on a line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a plan view of a portion of the blank from which the support is formed.
Referring now to the drawing `in detail, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, `l have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention. the
` numeral `5 designates a rope-like member generally which is composed of a core of absorbent material 6, such as cotton or the like, having fine wire or thread 'l wrapped'around the same to maintain the core in substantially transversely rounded form.
One side of the rope-like member 5 is covered with parsley or similar fresh green vegetation 8, the stems 9 of the parsley being inserted under the "wire or thread l and in direct contact with the core B.
sides and end portions thereof and may also extend transversely thereof at spaced intervals, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing, to separate various types of meat products and also to add to the ornamentation thereof.
I'he moisture contained in the core 6 of the rope-like member will keep the parsley or other vegetation in a fresh condition over a relatively long period of time.
It is believed that the details of construction and manner of use of the article will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. A new article of manufacture comprising an elongated core of absorbent material, a iilexible strand wound spirally about the core from end to end to produce a rope-like member, and fresh vegetation having stem portions thereof secured under the convolutions of said flexible strand.
2. In a display device of the class described,
Athe combination of an elongated trough-like hold-
