Description
Oct. 17, 1967 M. L. LAIDIG 3,347,018
HORSE TAIL BRAID Filed 001:. 24, 1965 MOWK L q United States Patent 3,347,018 HORSE TAIL BRAID Mark Lamont Laidig, 881 Third Ave., Excelsior, Minn. 55331 Filed Oct. 24, 1965, Ser. No. 505,322 1 Claim. (CI. 54-78) This invention pertains to an imitation horse tail braid for horses and like animals, and to an invention which is particularly economical and convenient.
In the exhibition of certain types of show animals, and the public appearance of certain pleasure and sporting animals, it has been the custom to braid the tail hairs beginning at the base of the tail at the rump and continuing the braid to approximately the length of the dock. It is common practice to fashion this particular type of braid by hand which is a diffi-cult and somewhat tedious task. A few of the outer hairs at the top (or base) of the tail are brought from each side into a three strand braid, then adding a few strands at each twist of the braid from alternating edges of the tail growth, which substantially encloses the dock and the remaining portion of hair.
It is an object of this invention to simulate the pleasing appearance of the hand braided tail.
Another object of this invention is to provide an article of use which Will eliminate the diflicult and tedious task of hand braiding.
Another object of this invention is to provide a simulated tail braid which is pleasing in appearance, easy to use, economical to manufacture, eflicient, and sufiiciently durable as herein described.
Other and further objects of this invention will be obvious and apparent from the following description. The description refers to the accompanying drawings in which identical numbers refer to corresponding parts throughout the various illustrations.
FIG. 1 is a view of the hindquarters and tail of a horse showing the conformation thereof and the appearance of a braid by hand.
FIG. 2 is a view of the innovation herein described as it appears placed on a flat surface.
FIG. 3 is a view of the innovation herein described and the method of afiixin-g it around the tail of a horse.
The main body of the device 1 is formed from some flexible, strong fibers which simulate the hairs of the animal in appearance and color. Vertical to the horizontal strands of the main body is the braid 2. At the opposing ends of the main body strands are the two parts of a closure device 3 and 4. At the base 5 of the braid may be afiixed a decoration or other accommodation according to the desire of the user.
In the use of this simulated horse tail braid, the innovation is placed around the tail with the top edge 6 close to the base of the tail so that it will enclose the tail and afford a pleasing and neat appearance. The closure 3 and 4 is then joined on the underside of the tail, causing the main body 1 to be against and around the upper portion of the tail, enclosing it, and resulting in an effect which is both realistic and etficient.
It will therefore be seen that I have disclosed a device which will etfectively simulate the hand braid of the tail of horses and like animals. It is obvious that this invention is an article of great convenience and usefulness.
While the invention has been described in detail with specific examples, such examples are illustrative and not given as limitations, since other modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art. Hence the invention is to be understood as limited only as indicated, in the appended claim, in which the intent is to set forth all the novelty over prior art.
I claim:
A device adapted to fit about a horses tail and simulate braiding thereof comprising a central elongated braid member, a pair of edge members, said edge members being disposed on either side of said central braid member and spaced therefrom, a plurality of flexible fibers in substantially parallel spaced relation secured with and extending from either side of said central braid member to said edge members and secured therewith, said edge members being positioned by said fibers a greater distance at an upper portion of the device than at a lower portion of the device to conform with a horses tail when secured in place, said edge members being fastenable to each other so that said device may be placed longitudinally along the length of a horses tail, be wrapped thereabout and be fastened longitudinally to each other.
