2 Claims. (Cl. 198-66) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in gates for fiat pan vibrating conveyers and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of this character of the butterfly type, whereby the conveyer will not be thrown out of balance when the gate is opened.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a butterfly type gate of the aforementioned character embodying a novel construction and arrangement whereby dust leakage will be substantially prevented at all times.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a conveyer gate of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efiicient and reliable in operation, compact, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure l is a view in side elevation of a flat pan vibrating conveyer equipped with gates embodying the present invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view in side elevation of the conveyer with the gate therein in closed position. I
Figure 3 is a substantially similar to Figure 2 but with the gate in open position.
Figure 4 is a view in transverse section, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 5.
Figure 5 is a view in longitudinal section, showing the gate closed.
Figure 6 is a longitudinal sectional view, showing the gate open.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary view in horizontal section, taken substantially on the line 'I-'I of Figure 5.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that reference character I designates generally a flat pan vibrating conveyer. Depending from the bottom 2 of'the conveyer I are outlets 3 to the usual bins or spouts. The conveyer I receives material from a pit or other suitable source through the medium of an elevator 4 and a chute 5.
The fiat pan conveyer I may be suspended in any desired manner by a suitable framework over the bins in a horizontal position. The suspending framework and. the method of vibration, not being part of the present invention are not shown or described here. The horizontal position of the vibration is indicated in Figure 1. Also, the conveyer I is magnetically or mechanically vibrated in any suitable manner relatively to the bins. Sealing gaskets 6 prevent dust leakage around the discharge necks or spouts 3.
Each outlet 3 is controlled by a gate which is designated generally by reference character I. As illustrated to advantage in Figures 4, 5 and 6 of the drawings, each gate 1 includes a shaft 8 journalled transversely in the conveyer I. Dustproof bearings 9 are provided on the side walls ID of the conveyer I for the shaft 8. It will be observed that the end portions of the shaft 8 project beyond the bearings 9.
Within the conveyer I, the shaft 8 is recessed, as at II, to provide a flat face on which a plate 32 is firmly securely by bolts I3. The plate I2 is provided with integral side flanges I4 which are operable on the side walls of the conveyer I and outlet 3. One end portion of the plate I2 is engageable beneath a lip I5 on the bottom 2 of conveyer I which projects over the outlet 3. The flanges I4 include substantially segmental end portions I6 formed to provide a shoulder I'I engageable on the lip IE to function as stops when the gate I is swung to open position. Guards I8 prevent the material from lodging between the flanges I4 and the side walls II] of the conveyer I.
Collars I9 are fixed on the protruding end portions of the shaft 8. Operating handles 20 are provided on the collars I9. Also carried by the collars I9 are angular arms 2|. Coil springs 22 have one end adjustably and detachably connected at 23 to the conveyer I and their other ends connected to the arms 2| for securing the gate I in either open or closed position.
It is thought that the operation of the invention will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, with the gate 1 in closed position, as seen in Figure 5 of the drawings, the material in the vibrating conveyer I flows over said gate past the outlet 3 which is controlled thereby. To open the gate 1, as seen in Figure 6 of the drawings, the shaft 8 is rotated by swinging the handles 29 from the position of Figure 2 of the drawings to that shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. As the gate 1 is opened or closed, the coil springs 22 swing past dead center for securing said gate in either position. The construction and arrangement, it will be observed, is such that the lateral balance of the vibrating conveyer I is disturbed in no way regardless of the position of the gate I or while said gate is being actuated to open or closed position. As hereinbefore indicated, the bearings 9 and the gaskets 6 prevent the. escape of dust from the apparatus. The material passing over a gate 1 assists in holding same in closed position owing to the fact that the load is substantially equal on both sides of the axis or pivot 8 of said gate.
It is believed that the many advantages of a vibrating conveyer gate constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. A vibrating conveyer including side walls and having an outlet in its lower portion, a butterfly gate journalled transversely in the conveyer for controlling the outlet, said gate including a plate and side flanges on the plate, and guards on the side walls of the conveyer for preventing ma terial from lodging between said flanges and said side walls.
2. A vibrating conveyer of the character described having an outlet in its lower portion, transversely aligned bearings mounted on the conveyer, a shaft traversing the conveyer and journalled in the bearings, the end portions of said shaft projecting beyond said bearings, said shaft including an intermediate portion of substantially segmental transverse section in the conveyer, a plate fixed on said intermediate portion of the shaft for controlling the outlet, collars fixed on the end portions of the shaft, operating handles on said collars, angular arms on the collars, and coil springs connected to said arms and adapted to swing past dead center for securing the plate in open or closed position.
