MASHER FOR POTATO-ES Filed June 27, 1944 INVENTOR- L ELIO A. Barr/-51. 1. I
Patented Oct. 2, 1945 UNITED STATES lATENT OFFICE MASHER FOR POTATOES Lelio A. Bottinelli, East Cleveland, Ohio Application June 27, 1944, Serial No. 542,291
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a masher for potatoes.
An object of the invention is the. construction of a novel and eflicient device for mashing vegetables, such as potatoes, etc.
Another object of the invention is the construction of a novel and efficient masher wherein the size of the openings or apertures can be enlarged or reduced as the operator desires.
A still further object of the invention is the construction of a comparatively inexpensive yet highly efiicient vegetable masher wherein two apertured discs or plates are employed, one being adjustable or rotatable upon the other, resulting in the varying of the size of the registering apertures for accommodating different conditions during operation.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing;
Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in vertical section of a masher constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 2--2, Figure l, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawing, in which Figs. 1 and 2 show the preferred embodiment of the invention, i designates an inverted substantially U-shape handle that is provided with twointurned horizontal flanges 2 on its ends. An apertured primary plate or disc 3 is fixedly secured to the under faces of said flanges 2 preferably by rivets 4.
An auxiliary apertured rotary plate or disc 5 engages the under face of disc 3. A bolt 1 extends through said discs 3 and 5; said bolt is provided with a squared portion 8 fitting a square aperture in disc 5, so that when the disc 5 is rotated the bolt too will rotate. A winged or butterfly nut 9 is preferably threaded upon said bolt 1, and is screwed tight against primary disc 3 to hold auxiliary disc 5 in a fixed and adjusted position, whereby the size of the openings; caused by the registering apertures of discs 3 and 5, will be controlled. By loosening winged nut 9 and imparting rotary movement to plate or disc 5, as shown by A, Fig. 2, the registering apertures can be caused to have openings of A2, A,, or of an inch, and also full capacity, as the operator desires, to accommodate the masher to different foods or conditions. ,The
locking of the auxiliary disc in its adjusted position is accomplished by tightening the winged nut 9; the square ortion 8 and the nut 9 constitute an admirable means for an excellent locking action of the auxiliary disc 5.
This described novel structure permits the masher to have a wide range of uses, and perform with great satisfaction and efiiciency.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawing, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such alterations or changes as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a masher, the combination of a handle, an apertured primary disc secured to said handle, an apertured rotatable disc against the bottom of said primary disc, a bolt extending through said discs, said bolt having a squared portion in said rotatable disc, and a nut on said bolt against said primary disc.
