. g ohnfitnmhau,.a hiandywis. a Application December 1, 1944, Serial*No.'-566, 1'97 40mins. 21. 464147) This invention relates to improvements in toys and more particularlyto figure toys'in" which'motion imparted to one element'ofthe toy'is' translated into a" contrasting motion of another.ele-' ment...,
The primary object or the invention is to provide wholesome fun and a source of amusement to children and grownups alike.
Another object is to provide means to simulate rocking motion of a cradle in the top of a treeand to put into practice in the form of an animated silent toy the nursery rhyme Rock-a-bye- Baby-on-The-Tree-Top.
Still another object is to introduce relative motion between a rockable body part and another complemental part of a toy in such a manner that when the body part rocks to and fro the other part will move in a realistic contrasting manner.
The above and other objects maybe attained by employing my invention which embodies among its features a body carrying end panels the lower ends of which are curved to form rockers by which the body may be caused to sway laterally, a swingable part pivoted to the body near its upper end, a lever pivoted to the body and carrying at its lower end two feet which when the body, is at rest on its vertical axis project downwardly below the rocker, there being an actuating connection between the upper end of the lever and said swingable part.
In the drawings:
Figure lis an end elevational view of one embodiment of my invention showing the toy cradle at rest,
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a top plan view of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 2, and
Figure 5 is a front view of the swingable figure part.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the cradle designated generally l comprises a trough-shaped body part II leaving attached to opposite ends, end panels II, the lower ends of which are arouately curved as at 13 to form rockers l4. Pivoted at I on the vertical axis of at least one of the rockers I4 is a lever or trip finger I6 carrying at its lower end a rectangular base having a pair of spaced projections or feet I! which are spaced equi-distant on each side of the pivot l5 and which project downwardly below the rocker face I 3 to contact with the surface upon which the cradle l0 rests.
Pivoted at l8 to the panel I2 in spaced relation to, but on the same vertical axis as the pivot His amovable; part-lithe upper end of which is shaped to'simulate a'miniatu're cradle. However, "the "outline "and contour of thispart may be varied'to'suit the theme which is to be emphasized,' 'as'will be later explained. Formedinthe lower'errdpf'the'movable-part 19 int. position to receive the'upper 'end'of the lever finger-l6 is a notch or recess 20 the side walls of which cooperate with the lever in such a manner that when the cradle as a whole is rocked the movable part I! will be moved with a pendulous-like motion.
Supported in spaced parallelism to the panel I! on vertical rimming walls 2| and a horizontal slotted top wall 22 is an enclosing and concealing panel 23 the lower end of which is curved as at 24 to conform with the curvature l 3 of the rocker I4 to which the panel 23 is attached. The enclosing panel 23 terminates short of the upper end of the panel l2 as indicated at 2-5 so as to expose to view the upper portion of the movable part [9.
In its present embodiment, the invention is shown with the enclosing panel printed or lithogra hed on its exposed surface to represent trees and the exposed upper end of the movable part I! is printed or lithographed to represent a cradle containing an infant so as to create a realistic representation of the nursery rhyme Rocka-bye-baby etc. It is obvious, however, that the invention is readily adaptable to the printing or lithographing of other entertaining and amusing themes such as the nursery rhyme Wynken, Blynken and Nod." In the latter case, 01' course, the upper portion of the movable part l9 would be appropriately shaped and decorated to represent a shoe and the exposed surface of the enclosing panel would "be treated in a manner compatible with the theme. other modified themes, will, of course, lend themselves to interpretation and hence I do not wish to have my invention limited, or restricted solely to the Rock-a-bye-baby theme.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Minor changes in the shape, size and arrangement of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice, if desired.
What is claimed is:
