2 Claims. (erase-8s) 'My invention relates generally to atomizers; that'is, to devices for dispensing liquids in a fine spray. Scientifically, my invention relates to atomizers of the small, readily portable type.
In conventional atomizers, there is provided a single reservoir for the fluid to be dispensed, and also a single chamber from which the fluid is drawn, and there is conventionally provided a single air outlet and a single fluid outlet. While these conventional constructions have, in the main, been more or less satisfactory, I have provided a device wherein the atomization may be more positively effected.
The main object of my invention, therefore, is the provision of a device of the character described having a fluid reservoir and a chamber from which the fluid is drawn.
Another object of my invention is the pro: vision of a device of the character described in which there is provided a main fluid reservoir, a secondary fluid reservoir, and a communication therebetween, the fluid being drawn from the secondary reservoir for atomization.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an atomizer of the character described having a plurality of fluid containing chambers and an outlet passage for each chamber.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an atomizer of the character described which has a main fluid reservoir, a secondary fluid reservoir, and a main fluid outlet and a secondary fluid outlet.
Other and further objects of my invention will be apparent and still others specifically pointed out hereinbelow in connection with the following description of an illustrative embodiment of my invention.
In the drawing annexed hereto and forming a part hereof,
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through one form of device constructed according to and embodying my invention;

Fig. 5 is a view, similar to Fig. 1, of a modified form of device also constructed according to and embodying my invention.
In the drawing, my device is indicated generally by reference numeral Ill, and comprises a chambered casing I2 formed as by molding or otherwise of plastic material, hard rubber material, or any other suitable material. Casing l2 has two fluid containing chambers therein, in the lower portion thereof, and a plunger chamber in the upper portion thereof, the fluidcontaining chambers and the plunger chamber being'separated by an integral wall portion I4. I Fluid containing chambers l6, l8, arese'parated by an integral wall or septum 20, extending downwardly from wall l4, near the forward end of the device, said wall 20 stopping short of the bottom 22 of the device, the space between the bottom and the end of wall or septum 20 defining a passageway 22 between the larger main fluid reservoir 16 and the secondary, smaller, fluid containing chamber l8. Fluid introduced into the main chamber I6 necessarily will pass through the passageway into the secondary chamber and remain at a common level therewith. A threaded opening 24 may besuitably formed at the rear of main chamber l6, adapted to be removably sealed by a threaded cap or plug 26, so that as needed, fluid may be introduced into the chambers.
Plunger chamber 28 is formed preferably of circular section (see Fig. 3) and is open at its rear end 30. A threaded, centrally apertured block 32 is provided, to locate the piston rod 34 and to seal the chamber by engagement with female threads formed inside the open end 30. The rear end of rod 34 is provided with a cap 36 whereby the plunger may be grasped for actuation, and pins 38 may be provided on rod 34 to lock same within block 32 when the device is not in use. Piston 38 is secured to rod 34 by a suitable screw 40. The bottom 29 of plunger chamber 28 has a circular stud 42 formed thereon, extending outwardly therefrom to locate a coil spring 44 which bears against piston 38, and serves normal-- 1y to urge piston 38 outwardly of the casing. An air passageway 46 is provided leading from piston chamber out towards the forward end of the device. Thus, as piston 38 is advanced, against the tensioning of spring 44, the air within the chamber is compressed and forced out through passageway 46.
A head member 50 is provided, also of plastic or other suitable material, which is so secured on the device as to bear against air passageway 46 and the auxiliary reservoir l6 (see Figs. 1 and 5). A pair of air canals 52, 52 are formed through head 50 communicating, at their rear end with passageway 46, and at their forward end leading into a' pair of vertically extending canals 54,. 54. The upper ends of canals 54, 54 open to the atmosphere, and the lower ends open on chamber H? (see Figs. 1 and 5).
Thus, as air is forced out through canals 52, 52, suction is created to draw the liquid in'chamber l8 up and through canals 54, 54 and out, intermingled with the air in a fine spray.

In'the modification of Fig. 5, similar parts are indicated by similar numbers. This form differs from the form of Fig. l in'that head 50 is provided with an additional pair of canals 90, 90; Canals 90, 90 lead, at'their forward end, into canals 54, and at their rear end arein communication with main reservoir l6 via an opening 88. The head member 50 may be made in any desired shape, either curved for ordinary atomization, as shown; or tipped'for nasal inser tions, all as'desired.
The provision of dual canals when'combined with main and auxiliary reservoirs, results in a more positive atomization of the fluid, and in a more eificient device generally;
