Description

Sept. 18, 1945. D7 BAYKERMAN 2,384,788
COLLAR CLIP Filed Feb. 5, 1944 INVENTOR. Dana! Baler/nan ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 18, 1945 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a collar clip.
More specifically, the invention proposes the construction of collar clips adapted to be used for attaching the points of a soft collar to a shirt front in a manner to prevent the points from projecting upwards.
Still further the collar clip is characterized by a headed straight pin engageable through the point of a collar and through the front of a shirt to receive a socket fastener member upon the inside of the shirt in a manner to retain the pin in its position extended through the collar point and shirt.
It is a further object of the invention to decorate the front face of the headed pin to improve the appearance thereof.
It is another object of the invention to construct the socket member in a particular manner to permit its complete disengagement from the pin when removing the collar clip.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a partial front elevational view of a shirt provided with collar clips in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged partial vertical sectional view taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the headed straight pin, per se.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the socket fastening member, per se,
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of a collar clip constructed in accordance with a modification of this invention.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line I-'l of Fig. 5.
The collar clip, according to this invention, is
to be used in combination with a shirt I0 having a a soft collar II formed with downwardly projecting collar points.
The collar clip includes a headed straight pin I2 consisting of a head I3 and a pin portion I 4 which is adapted to be engaged through the point of the collar and through the front of the shirt. A socket fastener member I5 is adapted to be engaged on the end of the pin at the back of the front of the shirt ID to retain the headed straight pin I2 in its engaged position with the point of the collar II and the front of the shirt Ill.
The exposed face of the head I3 of the headed straight pin I2 is provided with decorative material IB which improves the appearance thereof. With the collar clips in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the points of the collar I I will be retained in their downwardly extended position and will be prevented from projecting upwards. To remove the collar clips it is merely necessary to pull the socket fastening member I5 off the end of the pin portion I 4, permitting the pin portion to be withdrawn from the collar point II and the shirt III.
In the modification of the invention disclosed in Figs. 5-7 the construction of the collar clip is similar to that previously described, except for the construction of the socket fastener member I5. In this form of the invention the socket fastener member I5 includes a hollow casing I'I formed with an opening I8 into which the pin portion I4 of the headed straight pin I2 is adapted to be engaged. The pin portion I4 is formed with a reduced area I9 which is adapted to be engaged by a pair of oppositely disposed fingers 20 of resilient construction which are mounted within the hollow casing II. As shown in Fig. 6 the fingers 29 engage the pin at the reduced area I9 and act to securely retain it in position with the socket. fastener member I5. The finger portions 20 have operating rods 2| extended in opposite directions and projected from the tubular casing I1, permitting them to be manually squeezed together to spread the finger portions 20 and disengage them from the reduced area I9 and permit the headed pin to be disengaged from the socket fastener member I8. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined .in the appended claim. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A collar clip having a headed straight pin formed with a reduced area adjacent its point for engaging through a collar point and adjacent area of a shirt and upon the free end of which a hollow socket member is engaged having internal finger portions engaging said reduced area holdin said socket member in positipn on said pin, said finger portions being resilient to attain and maintain an engaged position with said reduced portion, and means for spreading said finger portions to disengage them from said reduced portions freeing said socket member to be removed from said pin, comprising operator rods extending in opposite directions from said finger portions to the exterior of said socket member to be manually pressed inwards to spread said finger portions.
