SAFETY RAZOR Fled- April l9,"1944 INVHVTOR. L ou/s .F12 H NK Trae/yay.
Patented Aug. 7, 1945 UNITED y STATES PATEN 'r OFFICE A Application April 19, 1944, Serial No. 531,682
sonnes.;
My invention relates to a .safetyl razor and has for its principal object, to provide a simple practical and inexpensive structure, including a handle, blade holder and blade wherein the holder andblade are constructed and shaped so that the holder will receive and clamp, only those blades which are specifically produced and shaped for use in vsala'zl holder, thereby overcoming the indiscriminate use of various shaped blades with the holder.
There are at present, on the market, a number of safety razor blade holders which will receive and clamp, many dilerent makes of razor blades, some of which may of inferior quality andy for the protection of manufacturers of high grade safetyl razors and blades, I propose to provide a holder which will receive only those blades which are produced for complementary use in such holder.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists lin certain new and novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is'a top plan view of one form of my improved razor made Fig. 2 is a. vertical longitudinal section taken through the center of the holder.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view'of the two blade blade used with the form of holders shown in\ Fig. 4. v
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a rfurther modined form of blade.
' Referring by numerals to the accompanying -drawing and particularly to the 'construction illustrated'in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, l0 designates the lower member' 'of the holder, which is curved transversely and provided on' its longitudinal edges with conventional safety razor teeth Il and formed'in the center of this member l0 is an grooved members.
c1. sc-vol p ber and enters a threaded bore Il, in the upsharp longitudinal edges and formed inthe center of saidblade is anl aperture 2| for'the reception of stud i6 when the blade is positioned in the holder.
lFormed in the blade in longitudinal alignment with each other and with aperture 2l, are
indentations which provide small studs 22, located and spaced so as to enter the recesses i3 and I8 when the razor partsare assembled.
Obviously the num-ber of the recesses I8, and Il, and studs 22 may vary, although as illustrated, I prefer to provide for each of said recesses and studs, two on each side of the stud IB and aperture 2| andwith the members of each pair of studs 22-reversely arranged, l. e..
one stud projecting from one face of the -blade* and lthe other projecting from the other face.
Thus, when a blade is positioned in the holder,
two of the kstuds 22 are seated in two of the recess'es l2 in lower member Ill with th'e other `two studs seated in two of the recesses I8 in upper' member' I4 and when the handle I1 is screwedv onto stud I5, the blade will be clamped between plates vIII and".
Inasmuch as the blade .engaging faces of the frame member lll and 'Il are devoid of all ribs.
stud grooves and the like, it, will be impossiblel to yapply and clamp between said members, blades which are especially constructed for cooperative use with such ribbed, studded or In Figs. 4 and 5, 'I' have. shown afmodiiled structure wherein the inner faces of the -frame plates are provided with ,registering'recesses 2l adapted t0 receive the heads of studs or rivets Formed in the upper surfaceof member IU in longitudinal alignment with aperture I2 are ,small shallow recesses Il. e l
The upper member Il of V`the holder is ores cent shape in cross section equal in length, but
slightly shorter thanlower member I ll and depending froni the underside of said upper member is a centrally arranged'threadedl st ud which passes through aperture I2 in the vlower mem- "28, on both faces of the interposed blade.
'In ne. 6,- the blade 1s shown indented so asftn form two studs 21, with one projecting from each face 'of said blade. I'his form of blade maybe y used with the form of -holder seen in Fig. 4.
It is to be noted that in my improved razor blade there isat least' one stud such as 22, 26
or 21 projectingoutwardly from each face of the blade and1thus the latter cannot lie flat -after use.
Thus it will be seenAthat I have provided a safety razor wherein the holder and blade are constructed so that said holder will receive and clamp, only those blades intended to be used with the particular holder, thus preventing the indiscriminate use of blades with the specially formed holder.
My improved safety razor is simple in struc# ture, inexpensive of manufacture and very effective in performing the functions for which it is intended.
It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved safety razor may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
, I claim as my invention:
1. In a. safety razor. a holder comprising a p air of plates, a blade adapted to be positioned between said plates and pairs of interengazlns st uds and recesses on the contacting faces of said plates and blade between the centers and ends thereof.
l 2. A safety razor as set forth in claim 1 and means including a handle for clamping said plates and blades to each other.
3. In a safetyv razor, a holder comprising a pair of Aplates provided on their adjacent faces with pairs of recesses disposed between the centers of said plates and the ends thereof, a blade adapted to be positioned between said plates and pairs of studs on said blade between the center and'ends thereof for engagement in the recesses in said plates.
4. A safety razor as set forth in claim 3 and with means including a handle for clamping nsaid plates and blades together.
